The best part about that particular incident is that after play resumed, the Avs PR team kept putting Ghetto back on the jumbotron and the crowd roared each time. Ghetto just laughed and waved. Expert troll job.

Craig Morgan, Darren Dreger and others are reporting that OEL will re-sign in Glendale for the aforementioned 8 x 8 deal.

Yotes have a kinda old but interesting D corps next season: OEL, Goligoski, Demers, Hjalmarsson, Chychrun, Connauton, Oesterle.

Looks solid to me.

Is this team finally going to show something?

Keller-Stepan-Grabner
Perlini-Galchenyuk-Panik
Strome-Dvorak-Hinostroza
Cousins-Richardson-Archibald

OEL-Hjalmarsson
Gogo-Demers
Chychrun-Connauton

Raanta

Christian Dvorak, in the final year of his ELC, signs a 6-year extension with a $4.45 million AAV.

One thing that's interesting to note--hardly anything in terms of signing bonuses. It almost looks structured in anticipation of a 2019 lockout (he gets a $300K bonus in 2019, but $0 beyond that). Maybe that's why they consummated this so quickly.

I honestly don't know much about the guy, that's more or less 3C money, he strikes me as a pretty good, but not great player.

I don't buy the outcry of "IT'S GONNA RUIN THE MARKET!!!" Oh, stop...this doesn't seem like an egregious overpay like, say, David Clarkson or something like that.

UFA deals can't be used for precedent in RFA contracts, but RFA deals are. So a Clarkson deal wouldn't have any impact on these deals, while Dvorak won't necessarily ruin the market but can have a future impact.

Burtch was pointing out that Dvorak's got good 5v5 goal production on bad Arizona teams. Banking on improving in the future. While he hasn't lit the world on fire, some teams could have benefitted greatly from taking risks with deals like these.

Well, Chayka's been on record as saying contracts should be purchases of future performance, not a reward for past performance. He's definitely putting his money where his mouth is.

Someone posted this is essentially Nazem Kadri money, but I don't think said person is taking market inflation into account. Kadri would likely be signing for a bit more if he were a free agent now than back then.

This is such an obvious thing that NHL GMs mostly haven't figured out. He's a middle 6 guy at 21, so there's room for him to become a bargain if he becomes a 50 point guy.

Reminds me of the Rakell deal, which might honestly be the best deal in hockey in right now.

Kadri was also older and buying out a lot more UFA years. It's not a good comparison.

Jaysus, not only is Galchenyuk hurt, possibly seriously, but so are Christian Dvorak and The Other Strome. Hell, even Barrett Hayton is hurt! They went into camp with a ton of depth at center and it's been done away with almost immediately. The Hockey Gods are not smiling upon the Desert Dogs for whatever reason.

But hey the Kachina jerseys are back.

Guess Perlini one of my favourite Icedogs of all time should get a chance to put up some goals to start the year now so that is something. Glad he has made it to the show with a degree of success after slowing down in the OHL post draft which is often the kiss of death to a career.

Dogs are 0-2 to start the year and the only team in the NHL that hasn’t scored a goal.

Guess I jinxed Perlini. 13 min of ice time a game and no points.

sorry dude.

Decent debut for Schmaltz, who set up one goal and scored his own in a 3-0 blanking of the Nashville Predators.

Also, it appears the Coyotes have reached a conclusion similar to what the Canadiens did previously...

Quote:
Per @Gambo987, Alex Galchenyuk will play on the wing tonight with Nick Schmaltz at center and Clayton Keller on the other wing.

The grand irony of all this is that Max Domi, a guy who wasn't even drafted as a center IIRC, is proving to be more effective at the pivot thus far than Galchenyuk ever did.

Oh boy...Antti Raanta out for the season. He's not even going to reach the season total games played he reached last season.

Kuemper has been not terrible. Not a long-term solution, but passable for now.

Well, they're getting better-than-expected returns from Adin Hill as well, not to mention they're the latest stop on the Calvin Pickard Tour, so they should get *passable* goaltending going forward.

Sad that their goaltending outlook still looks more optimistic than what we're seeing in St. Louis.

Nick Schmaltz out for the season with a knee injury. This team cannot catch a break.
