They liked him so much they dumped two players on Florida in exchange for AHL scrub Joey Crabb in order to keep him on the roster.

Hey, if he pans out that ain't bad for a third rounder.

One player who I thought got a raw deal in last year's draft because of race was speed demon Anthony Duclair. That whole Remparts team tanked down the stretch, and for some reason most of the blame was directed at him. Going into the draft scouts had pegged him as lazy and uncoachable. Rangers took him in the third round (higher than expected), and he rewarded them by putting up 50 goals.

NHL keeping a brotha down, frankly. He's good, but they might be rushing him.

Huh...not every day you hear this about a sports organization that's been around for nearly a century--a 19-year-old rookie becomes the first player in franchise history to wear the number 63.

The Rangers are the only team where it's possible they could have issued uniform numbers to 100 different numbers, I think. I don't think it's possible to issue a player number zero anymore, and obviously they've given out 99 as well.

Nope, I read league-wide 1-98 are fair game, nothing else. Not sure why 0 or 00 are off-limits. Well, 00 is more of a basketball thing anyway I guess.

Was there NEVER a 99 before Gretzky in the NHL? Never?

The Habs had a trio of 99s in the 30s or something. Basically for one year it was the standard callup sweater. But they've never had a 0 or 00. The Rangers have had a 0 at least. Rick Dudley wore 99 for the Jets in '81, and as E.L. said, Wilf Paiemant was the last non-Gretzky to wear it from 1980-82 for Toronto.

Again, none of those teams have had a 0 or 00 like the Rangers, and none of the Blues, Kings or Oilers did, either.

Moved to the Coyotes forum. So far, so good. He and Tie's kid are a good fit.
