Somebody explain to me why Gary Bettman is still employed.

This is written from an Avs perspective, but really, this just shows how idiotic Bettman has been in handling this situation. Not only do the Coyotes have to let good players go, they might have to let their GM and coach walk as well. Fucking ridiculous--just pull the plug already.

Meanwhile, Portland is selling out the Rose Garden for the WHL Finals. Again.

Coyotes retain Maloney long-term. Tippett next?

At least Bettman (reportedly) is finally realizing the situation is untenable.

I think a Seattle team would be awesome.

The City of Glendale can't afford to pay police officers or put gas in their fire trucks, but they still found money to give to The Hockey. Unreal.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/g ... e12944823/

And there's an out clause too, so we'll see you suckers in five years.

The solution that needs to happen is simple: Jobing.com Arena needs to burn down.

The Coyotes are sold:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=429186

http://www.fiveforhowling.com/2013/8/5/ ... icearizona

And of course, who is one of the two major entities financing the loans? The NHL.

Quote:
This morning the NHL Board of Governors overwhelmingly approved the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes to IceArizona, formerly Renaissance Sports & Entertainment. The $170 million purchase, partially financed through loans from the Fortress Investment Group and the league itself, demonstrates the NHL's fervent desire to make private ownership of the Coyotes as successful as possible.

Does that remove them from the "____ team is moving to _________ list"?

The team may be staying, but the saga is FAR from over, and Bettman just got a shit-ton of egg thrown in his face by the very same judge who ruled in his favor in '09.

Yeah, but the problem is that the egg on his face could affect the entire league. Frankly he deserves to be smacked for arrogantly thinking the league was going to recoup losses the Coyotes incurred by taking it out of Moyes' ass, but unfortunately the league will pay for his mistakes. I still am not sure why Bettman isn't stepping down--I guess that's just another page he's taking out of his mentor's book.

He could help make things right by paying Gretzky the money he is owed.

Gretzky and the NHL finally kiss and make up.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/welco ... issed-you/

Ridiculous that it took this long.

I hope he ends up with the Kings, or even better, if he boots Lowe's ass out of Edmonton and takes over there. It'd be weird to see him in Toronto though.

Dejected Isles buyer Barroway to buy Coyotes.

Quote:
Ice Arizona would retain a 49-percent ownership stake in the team. From the Post:

Sources further report Barroway, a Philadelphia-based hedge fund manager, is buying 51 percent based on a recent $305 million valuation of the franchise, which was purchased by RSE for a reported $170 million. The NHL had paid $140 million to get the team out of bankruptcy.

So current owners essentially get 88% of their investment back (before whatever they lost last year) and remain owners. Not too bad I guess.

Didn't realize until yesterday that the Ribeiro buyout was not compliance'd, which means they must want it on the books in order to stay above the salary floor. Oy vey...

What a brutal squad. Gagner and Erat are both terrible pickups (and apparently Tampa is picking up some of the salary on Gagner). I'm guessing Tippett's a goner, though he can hardly be blamed for this mess.

This thread is antiquated.

Ribeiro's contract was signed after the lockout, so it couldn't be a compliance buyout.
