Hey, I would've gladly taken a 2nd round exit over no playoffs. But I'm sure fans in Flyerland are a bit less enthusiastic.

Does Jagr come back? Does Pronger? The team is still pretty deep and pretty dangerous, plus you have Sean Couturier playing a bigger role next year. But what does this team need to finally get that Cup?

Bryz was not good, but again, the team got their ass kicked by the Devils. They had what, 20 shots combined in the 2 games in Jersey? And one goal in an elimination game?

True, but if Fluery is even average in the 1st series the Pens would have moved on.

Look the Flyers couldn't score much in this series, and IN THIS SERIES the blame doesn't fall totally on the goalie, but it is apparent that they do need a more consistent goalie.

At least with Bryz, you can hope next year will be better. What do you do about your D? Pronger can't even retire due to that stupid contract. Timmonen is in the overpaid part of his deal. Carle needs to be re-upped, and he's going to cost over $5m.

Up front, the solution is pretty obvious: hope for improvements from Couturier and Schenn. JVR you may have to wait on to get full value, right now a move of him would just be a salary dump. Voracek needs to be re-upped. Jagr was a one-year luxury signing.

Bryz was good in this series, and as little as we may all think of him, he's arguably the best goalie the Flyers have had in many years and they've been very competitive for those years without a great goalie. Sure I think Luongo would be a great fit but that 9 yr 5mil+ a year contract for Bryz won't be moved easily.

Bryzgalov's contract is an anchor- and the other end of the short line is tied around Holmgren's neck.

Geez, Bryz was inconsistent, but he was no albatross. He can still be a quality number one, and played really well down the stretch. Heck, he was their only good player in game 4.

And the shit-show begins: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=395598

Holmgren saying of Bryzgalov "It's not Comedy Central." :haha:

I find Hartnell's comments about missing Richards' & Carter's points interesting. Pretty open dig on Holmgren's move. Things could get really interesting here.

Apologies in advance if I've already mentioned this...

The Flyboys as an organization should take a good, long, look at what's going on with the teams that are hoisting the Cup every year instead of them. Right now Mike Richards and Jeff Carter are making plans to crash every frat party in southern California after getting kicked off the Dry Island. Justin Williams is doing the same after Bobby Clarke deemed him superfluous. And Patrick Sharp is still reaping the rewards from his Stanley Cup run after getting traded for Matt Ellison and a 3rd rounder (who I think ended up being Jonathan Matsumoto).

Anyway, that's three Flyers castoffs who played an integral part in L.A.'s championship run, and a fourth who helped end Chicago's Cup drought two years ago. If JVR gets traded and later ends up being a key cog to Cup run with someone else, Flyers fans will rightfully be enraged.

I guess one thing Philly needs to quit doing are these monstrous contracts that immediately put them in huge cap trouble. Make no mistake, the trades of Carter/Richards had as much to do with clearing cap room for a big-name goalie as it did whatever off-ice indiscretions they may have committed. It's forcing Philly to give up on players way too soon and/or trade very good players for financial reasons.

Well, that's that. No Shea Weber.

So what do the Flyboys do now? Their defensive corps as it stands is not horrible by any means, but no Pronger and no Carle definitely hurts.

Heard some rumors that GMMG had been working the phones trying to pawn off Ballard at $4.2M but I can't see Holmgren biting at that price.

Sadly, even with no Weber, Pronger, Carle, or Mezsaros, their top 4 is still better than the Avs.

You do realize they have Luke Schenn, don't you?

Basically it's a solid Timmonen-Coburn pair and a bunch of stiffs. Grossman can be good with a good puckmover (Mezaros sorta qualifies) but when it's Bruno Gervais...

They should re-sign Kubina. Or sign Rozsival who still has no contract for god knows why.
