Philadelphia is a dump of a city. The people are assholes & there really isn't much to do once you're outside of the city. Plenty of other markets by far exceed the quality of life that Philadelphia has to offer. At $4.5 million over 5 yrs, I surmise some higher quality markets offered up a similar package.

This is a puzzling move. Vinny & his family will be downright miserable & I'm certain his play will reflect that.

I look forward to watching my team (and any other for that matter) pounding the shit out of the Flyers.

:wookie:

I'll be the first to admit that Philly is not a great city, but it's not a dump either. And all the people are not assholes, some yes, I have encountered a few. Vinny and his family won't be miserable because most Flyers players DO NOT live in Philly. They live in NJ to be closer to the practice facility in Voorhees. Only one I know of that was living there was Hartnell and that was a few years ago. So I look to forward to my team beating the shit out of yours as well.

This is what I like to see.

I always thought Richards and Carter lived in the city.

No surprise, Flyboys lock up Giroux for the max.

I forgot about Mason. Maybe they will go with a Mason/Emery tandem. If I recall correctly Emery was a good fit in Philly during his previous stint and did well before he got a major injury. If he is better now maybe they take another chance given the season he had in Chicago.

Ha, at least it would be better than the Esche/Niittymaki tandem!

So unless they sign somebody else looks like it actually will be a Mason/Emery tandem!

Even if Emery doesn't win the competition with Steve Mason for the No. 1 spot, he probably will make 25 or 30 starts and be a key player.

Asked if it would work if each goalie played 41 games, Emery was quick with a replay.

"One hundred percent," he said. ". . . It's more about the relationship. That's not to say one guy doesn't play tons and one guy plays fewer, but it's more about making it comfortable and that you get the most out of both guys."

What's old is new again. Flyers pretty much go with the same plan they had before Bryzgalov. Whatever the case, I'll be watching.

I'm surprised he didn't end up as a GM already. The Habs had kicked around bringing Robitaille and Hextall over as a team last year, Robitaille as more the public face with Hextall the guy with the chops, though Luc definitely has some in his largely business/marketing (non-hockey ops) role with the Kings.

Hextall the GM in waiting?

As I've probably said before many times, I make fun of Philly a lot, but honestly, it'd be a boring-as-hell offseason if not for them.

Hal Gill brought into camp on a PTO, so if they sign him, they'll have to move someone else.

What's surprising is that Mason has been solid for them thus far. It's the rest of the team that's failed.

Lozo rips Paul Holmgren, who's likely on his way out anyway.

http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2013/10/1 ... -a-bad-gm/

It's kinda funny how much Philly's decline is similar to Edmonton's. Both teams made an improbable run to the Stanley Cup Finals with less-than-stellar goaltenders and both teams lost Chris Pronger, which exposed some severe blueline deficiencies. If trends continue, Philly will hire Laviolette back as their GM after three straight seasons of first overall picks.

Down a touchdown against the Caps. How low can they go?

Holy. Shit. I didn't think it could get much worse than a 7-0 drubbing and multiple ejections. But...

Wonder if Vinny wants to use a Mulligan?

And Philly made Ray Emery the 1st star of the game. Unfuckingbelievable.

Wrong black guy. Joel Ward was first star. Ray was third, which is still moronic.

And Downie was the one taken to the hospital. Welcome back to Philly, kid.

Vinny walked into an obvious shitshow. He deserves to play out his final years surrounded by mediocrity.

Craziest thing: Ovechkin wasn't even playing.

Wow.

Peter Laviolette is thanking his lucky stars right about now.
