So Bruno Gervais will see ice time? :Butch: Isles might have a chance to win a game or two vs Philly this year!

I'm reading Claude Giroux is set to be the next captain. Good a choice as any.

Now about that goalie situation...

They're gonna have Giroux do that too.

First Shanaban of the season! Schenn the Younger gets a game. The title under the video misidentifies him as Luke:

Things are going just swimmingly so far in this short season. Schenn is out a game. Briere won't be back at the earliest on the weekend. Oh and this little tidbit was just released:

Quote:
JANUARY 23
6:07 p.m.

HARTNELL INJURED
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren gave an injury update on Flyers forward Scott Hartnell:

"Scott will be out indefinitely with a left foot injury. We will know more on this within a day or two as we await results of tests."

More details to come...

Wow...the Flyboys signed Timonen for another year at $6 million!? I like Kimmo as much as the next guy, but at 37 he's not the player he once was--that's a pretty high price to pay. Holmgren must've been concerned that if he ran the risk of losing the guy to free agency, he'd be left with a pretty shaky blueline.

He's great on special teams but he's a shell of what he used to be at even strength. Bad valuation, and with a high risk of lost time due to age there's virtually no way they aren't losing on this deal in some form.

Coburn is this team's top guy now and he has never been that since the team finished dead last in the NHL.

Can not believe the mess the loads of talent turned into last couple of years. Was the manager making all these moves at the request of the owner? if not why is he not shit canned?

Shinning example of the if it ain't broke keep fixing it till it is.

Geez, based on his stat line, buying out Briere looks mighty tempting.

For some reason, they locked up bench warmer Jay Rosehill for two more years on a one-way deal.

Was Shea Weber the missing piece for this season?

And one upped

Quote:
EATS, SHOOTS AND LEAVES: That was the title of a book by former BBC radio host Lynne Truss, which bemoaned the deplorable misuse of punctuation in the U.K. and the United States. (And this was before Twitter.)

It was based upon a joke about a Panda walking into a bar, having a sandwich, drawing a gun and opening fire, and walking out.

Asked why he did it, the Panda tosses a badly-punctuated wildlife book at the bartender, and says: “Look it up.”

Sure enough, the book said the Panda “eats, shoots and leaves.”

So (we’re getting to the point soon), when Liverpool’s Luis Suarez first bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on the arm, undetected, in a marquee English Premier League match Saturday then, unpunished, was still on the field to score the tying goal with the very last touch after an unimaginable 6:34 of time added on, The Guardian’s headline on the story, accompanied by photo evidence of the crime, read: “Eats ... Shoots ... Leaves?”

Suarez has apologized for his “inexcusable behaviour” and is probably going to be suspended by the FA, but Chelsea still loses two points.

Helluva headline, though.

By all indications it looks like the Flyboys may try the offer sheet route again and try to ensnare one of Pietrangelo/Shattenkirk away from St. Louis this offseason. Yeesh.

Hope they get Darnell Nurse in the draft. It just makes sense.

Flyboys acquire the rights to Mark Streit for a 4th rounder in 2014.

and prospect Shane Harper.

Good move for both teams. Streit says they're close to a deal, only hours after being traded.

I still find it strange to help a division rival though. But I guess with the re-alignment, there are less out-of-division teams to choose from. Went from 26 other teams to 23. Not a significant drop, but it will probably increase intra-division trades.

Bryz and Briere about to get bought out

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/phi130613.html

So much turnover in Flyerland. What a toxic environment, and a total waste of assets.

Briere's still got some left in the tank, but he's no longer an impact player IMO. Someone (Isles?) will give him a shot.

Carter, Richards, Briere, and Bryzgalov all signed long-term deals and all of them are either gone or on their way out. That can't speak well to how well an organization treats its players when those kinds of deals give you no security whatsoever.

Tons of guys before them as well in the pre-salary cap days.
