Word has it the Flyboys have signed Steve Mason to an extension.

According to LeBrun, 3 years, $12.3 million. A sensible deal.

$4.1 mil a year for Mason maybe 'sensible' in comparison to some other past goalie decisions for the Flyers but that seems like a lot of money to me for a goalie that should be pretty much a backup anywhere but with the Islanders.

In the cap market nowadays the salary isn't nearly as important as the term. Just like the Steen deal in St. Louis, if the guy can't sustain the level he's currently at it might hurt in terms of $$$, but at least they're not stuck with an albatross for years to come.

Dellow posted on Twitter that Mason is the Anti-Dubnyk--a guy with an awful track record who got hot at the right time. And now he's done it twice.

It'll be interesting to see what Philly does from here on out. At this point Holmgren might actually keep his job, which is shocking to me. But unless Sammy Morin is going to be a superstar, the Flyers have their work cut out for them if they want to beef up that D. Do they take a chance and trade for Tyler Myers?

What, the Flyers made a dumb, rash decision regarding goaltending that came back to bite them in the ass? Crazy.

Anything above $1m for Mason is a waste. I'd rather run Budaj as my starter.

Pavelski and Couture both score hat tricks against Mason and Emery.

Did I say that extension was a good idea? Whoops.

Yeah, they called one back apparently. But even the Philly beat writer thought it should've been a goal. Oh well, not like it would've made a difference.

And apparently Berube put Mason back in the game in the 3rd.

Public flogging is in order. Or tar & feathering! I've always wanted to do that to someone.

"Let's give it just one more try...", AKA the story of Luke Schenn's career.

And in other news, Lecavalier becomes the most expensive 4th line center in the league.

My God, Schenn is actually putting up worse #s than MacDonald!?

On the other hand, Streit is still an impact player. Good for him.

If only Bruno Gervais was still there to make Schenn look good (by comparison that is).

Welcome to the Flyers, Steve Mason. Here's your complementary concussion: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014 ... oncussion/

Hope they didn't ruin the poor guy. He was playing well.

Timmonen was resigned for a 2 mil base salary with easy to reach game played bonuses.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/h ... ck=dlvr.it

Quote:
The Flyers rather quietly re-signed defenceman Kimmo Timonen on Friday, but what was more noteworthy than his return at age 39 was the unique structure of the deal.

Timonen will get only $2-million in base salary next season on a one-year deal, but he can essentially double his contract with some easy-to-earn games played bonuses.
