Its not a curfew but it is a curfew......10pm to 5pm.....not really sure what this accomplishes.

I assume you mean 5 AM.

I think it's largely to stop stupid shit that people are doing. My wife teaches high school. Saturday night in her district there was a house party with well over 100 students, mostly inside, almost none wearing masks. Can't wear a mask when you're drinking or ripping hits from the community bong, right? Wouldn't want to filter anything out.
Many arrests were made and they are now on distance learning.

Plenty of people are doing this kind of stuff. Pandemic fatigue is real, and combined with either celebration or protest of the election results, it's causing some dumb actions. The curfew most likely has more to do with election results though.

Part of the problem at least here in BC is losing faith in our government. BC did an exemplary job early on buy recently their messaging has gone to shit and its not following the science as the science changes. It's still stuck putting out policy appropriate for how the science of spreading was understood as of last spring. It wasn't understood that corona 19 is mostly transferred via aerosol, which means outside is really, really safe. Talking creates 50 times the amount of aerosol spread as sitting and just breathing. Singing, shouting, physical exertion from exercise are all worse than talking. Basically its sustained time indoors with poor ventilation with people who are talking, laughing, singing, exercising.

So the government in BC brought in new changes this weekend, we in BC can no longer visit friends at their homes, even outside on our patio with 2m distance.

They say church is okay with 50 people but they don't tell them to not sing? They don't shut down karaoke bars? They have shut down yoga studios, dance studio, zumba etc but gyms geared to weights, treadmills and cycling are still open with 2m distance are still open? The inconsistency and lack of transparency in their decisions is frustrating.

Here are some ideas. Turn the TV volume down in sports bars, turn the music off in night clubs, the noise forces people to talk louder which creates more aerosols. If a high end restaurant wants to put in an HVAC system that turns over all the air within the restaurant every 5 minutes, that would probably work. Cost $500k but worth it for a place that has $250k or more revenue a night when full capacity. Or put a small hepa filter one every table. Or fill outdoors patios for restaurants and bars, don't worry about 2m distance outdoors. Gyms and hockey arenas might be okay with their large air volume but locker rooms after the game are serious problems, can solutions be found like changing in the stands? Its like they are trying a one size fits all policy on everything because they are still stuck with spring 2020 knowledge level instead of adapting policy to the science.

I needed to rant on this a bit, we're nearing 600 cases a day in BC. First week of Sept I predicted 500 cases a day by end of October, I was off by a week. The exponential climb was obvious in August and yet nothing has been done for 2.5 months until this weekend other than trying to guilt people into better behavior. I'm pissed that our government let something so obviously predictable get away from them.

Yeah lots of the eastern US states have done their own research and have found that locker rooms are far more dangerous than playing the sports they're associated with. Yet many of the states are dropping to only allow in-state games (like MA teams against each other). NY still won't allow games, and almost every state around us is closing to outside teams, so we're not going to be playing games soon, unless tonight's NY hockey meeting announces that we can finally play in-state games. If not, we're going to be scrimmaging ourselves a lot.
