Travis Roy, the Boston University hockey player who suffered a spinal cord injury in the first 11 seconds of his college ice hockey career in 1995. Roy went on to be a philanthropist and inspirational speaker. Roy died on October 29 of surgical complications at age 45.

How about that, the two principal characters in that infamous Celebrity Jeopardy skit on SNL passed on within days of each other, even though they probably didn’t even know one another in real life.

Trebek was never better than when he was zinging contestants. There won’t ever be another like him.

Aerospace pioneer and the most famous test pilot in world history, Chuck Yeager, has taken one last flight at the very impressive age of 97. He outlived Sam Shepard, the man who played him in the film adaptation of The Right Stuff, by three years.

Phil Spector, who died Saturday, January 16, 2021, in a California prison health care facility of Covid-19 complications. Spector was a music producer "extraordinaire" who invented, with his trademark use of numerous instruments, backing singers along with the use of echo, the effect known as the "Wall of Sound". He produced and/or introduced numerous artists from the late 1950's until the early 1970's, including The Beatles, John Lennon, George Harrison, the Righteous Brothers and numerous 1960's girl groups such as the Cookies, the Crystals and the Ronettes. He was also an excellent musician playing the lead guitar on The Drifters hit "On Broadway". Spector also wrote numerous hit songs of the era. He was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. He also had a real dark side. He was an alcoholic level drinker and he mixed that with an unhealthy fascination with firearms which was why he lived the last 11 to 12 years of his life in prison because he killed a woman at his house after a heavy night of drinking by shooting her in the head. Brilliant guy but a real dick.

Supposedly pulled a gun on the Ramones while producing their album. I forget the whole story, but there are reports of him pulling guns on several artists prior to killing that woman. Fucking nutter.

Also reportedly abused women repeatedly, it just so happened he finally took it as far as someone could take that and killed one of them. Vile, vile human being. Kinda shocking how many publications, including Rolling Stone, gleefully glossed over all that.

She's not dead, thank God, but on the same day Spector died, Betty White turned 99 years old.
