Princess Leia's father, Eddie Fisher, dies at 82. And no it wasn't because his planet was blow'd up.

Stephen J. Cannell, the guy almost singlehandedly responsible for every freakin' TV show I grew up with, passes away at 69.

Whoa...didn't even know he was sick. It's too bad we'll never see this again.

Barbara Billingsley dead at 94. Wow, she outlived her TV husband by nearly 40 years!

Most remember her as June Cleaver but his greatest ever scene was this:

I still need to get a hold of "Game Change." Some not-so-nice things about either Edwards in there.

One for me and TCL. Bob Feller, Cleveland Indians great died yesterday, at 92, of Leukemia. The Hall of Fame pitcher was one of the greatest right handers of all time and was in Cleveland's rotation when they last won the World Series in 1948.

I highly recommend "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," a made-for-TV movie from HBO. Should've been a feature film. Geoffrey Rush is absolutely brilliant as Sellers, and nails every character from Inspector Clouseau to Dr. Strangelove down pat. You'll get a bigger appreciation for Edwards (played by John Lithgow) and the shit he had to put up with from Sellers, who was both a genius and an overgrown child at the same time.

My Dad remembers Feller well. Always said he was the best pitcher he had ever seen. Also said he was one of the biggest douchebags in sports history.

For tCL, Jyrki, Canuck in Oz and others who spent time around Vancouver in the '80s, local sports broadcaster Paul Carson passed away today from pancreatic cancer:

http://canuckshockeyblog.com/?p=5492

Carson was the brains behind CKVU Channel 13's popular 11:00 PM one half hour show Sportspage, well before there was a TSN or SportsNet. Sports broadcasters who got their start on the 'Page were Don Taylor, Barry McDonald, Dave Randorf and John Shorthouse. Sports Exec Chris Hebb also got his start there as well.

Aw crap... I had heard that he was quite ill... I always considered the 'Page a must-watch show each night. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family...

That's too bad -- I first posted something about his condition here, which at the time was the first I'd heard of it:

Carson was always the "straight man" of the Sports Page crew, but was still enjoyable to watch. Rest in peace, my man.

You may not recognize the name but you'll recognize the face. Veteran English character actor Peter Postlethwaite died of cancer at 64 years of age. He could seamlessly step into a role and make the character totally believable. Steven Spielberg called him the finest actor around. Take a look at all the movie and television roles he played in:

I feel like Dr Death at the moment. Musician Gerry Rafferty died today at aged 63 years. He was in Stealers Wheel before going solo with his big album in 1978 City to City with the hit "Baker Street."

http://www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2011 ... -obit.html

Not to speak ill of the dead but I wasn't a big fan of his solo stuff, I never understood why it got airplay. I also wasn't aware at the time he had been in Stealers Wheel who had their one hit single in the mid '70s and was heard all over AM radio then. I found out later he was part of the band. Their one song was a classic so for all of you from Mr Blonde, here's Gerry Rafferty in Stealer Wheel:
