British director Mike Hodges, who helmed the original Get Carter with Michael Caine (the 2000 remake with Stallone and Caine was shit) as well as the cult classic Flash Gordon (and I don't care what anyone says that film fuckin' ROCKS) dies at the age of 90.

Cannot believe the dumbass Steelers waited until this year to retire his number. Should’ve happened right after he retired. And now he won’t even be there to see it.

Vivienne Westwood dies at 81. She helped define the punk look in the 70s and kept working up until very recently.

Oh shit, I hope Jeremy Renner doesn't join this list. Apparently he was using a Snowcat to clear his driveway on January 1st and somehow it ran over him.    He's reportedly in critical, but stable condition. Lucky for him his neighbor is a doctor and applied a torniquet in order to stop his severely damaged leg from bleeding out.

Apparently suffered a very severe injury to his leg, lost a significant amount of blood, and blunt force trauma to the chest.

Out of surgery but still in critical condition.

Guitar virtuoso of the Yardbirds and his solo career, Jeff Beck, at 78 of Bacterial Meningitis. He was one excellent string bender.

Tom Verlaine, guitarist and vocalist for Television, one of the most influential bands ever. Two records at their peak, both top to bottom classics.

A shocker: Annie Wersching, probably best known for almost singlehandedly breathing new life into the TV show "24" after a universally-loathed season, dies at 45. She was also probably the best part of the short-lived show Timeless. Apparently she'd been battling cancer the last two years and kept it very quiet and continued to work. I believe her final major role was as the Borg Queen in Picard.

Also, Lisa Loring, the original Wednesday Addams, dies at 64 of a stroke. Oddly enough she's probably more famous for that viral video clip of her as Wednesday dancing with Lurch set to different music than she was the actual show.

Cindy Williams, who played Shirley Feeney in Laverne & Shirley, reunites with her former castmates at the age of 75. Michael McKean becomes the last surviving member of the cast. Hopefully she and Penny Marshall make amends in the afterlife.

Melinda Dillon. She played lots of roles but most will remember her as Ralphie's mom in A Christmas Story. Or Hanrahan's estranged wife in Slap Shot.

Yeah totally forgot she was in Slap Shot (and quite the memorable scene too, NSFW!), also in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I was kinda bummed she didn't reprise her role in the new sequel to A Christmas Story but she had long since retired by then.

Legendary composer Burt Bacharach has died at the age of 94.

To my embarrassment, I knew about his songs (who didn't?) but not about him until he was featured in the first Austin Powers movie.

To my further embarrassment, he wrote the hit "Always Something There to Remind Me" which I grew up thinking was an original 80s song by Naked Eyes and not a cover. Didn't know THAT until the original was used in the end credits of an episode of Mad Men. Apparently Patton Oswalt was taken by surprise as well at the time, so I'm not alone there at least.
