I'm wanting to diversify my listening habits a bit as I feel a little burned out on metal, 80s New Wave, and retro techno, and I need your help! I think I'll just start by asking for some ideas on certain genres.

If I list a band specifically, maybe give me an idea if you would be so kind as to what the best starting point might be. If you have some other band/genre/whatever worth listening to, by all means, tell me!

Now, if I get the classification wrong don't rag on me--I'm one of the least-cultured people you'll ever meet.

Punk/Post-Punk:
Buzzcocks
The Libertines
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Black Flag
Misfits
New York Dolls

Stoner Rock:
Kyuss

Prog Rock:
King Crimson
Yes
Brian Eno

Alternative:
Pavement
Dinosaur Jr.

Metal:
I know I said I was sick of it but there's a vast swath of music I have yet to listen to.

One request: Please NO jam bands, and yes I realize prog rock is kinda/sorta like one looooooong-ass weird jam but you know what I mean. And obviously...no fucking country please.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Punk/Hardcore
Circle Jerks
Descendents
Bad Religion (up until late 90s. Stuff after that is pretty watered down)
Minor Threat
Sick of it All (later stuff is metal-ish)
Vandals (like punk rock comedy)
Stiff Little Fingers (see Bad Religion description. I still like their later stuff, but some of it is very lounge act.)
Pennywise

Frank Turner mixes folk, punk, etc.

I could go on for a while.

Yes - Fragile, Close to the Edge

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King, Red

A new favorite of mine over the past couple of years that I've mentioned here is Bright light Social Hour. I love both of their albums and they rip it up live. Probably stick them under stoner/alternative.

A all-time favorite alternative band of mine is I Mother Earth. Their four studio albums in order of release are Dig, Scenery and Fish, Blue Green Orange, and The Quicksilver Meat Dream.

I'll second King Crimson's Red. Maybe my favourite guitarwork ever.

For Yes, I'm also a CTTE fan, and Yes Album is pretty great too.

Can't say I listen to Brian Eno much, but I do love the first two Roxy Music albums he's on.

Thanks guys, much appreciated!

Created a "King Crimson" station in Pandora at work, so far it's been a LOT of King Crimson with some Yes, Pink Floyd, and Genesis (PG era of course) sprinkled in.
