How about this chick? She is 20 yrs old Peruvian who is selling spare parts for motorcycles to her dad's mechanic shop customers.

Or this Phillipina who repairs and sells old boat motors:

Both have lots of room left to get in on the loan.

Can we combine our cash accounts into the Offthepost Team? I have a little over $5 (USD) in my account right now. I've got a Tanzanian grocery, a pub in western Africa and a Kenyan deadbeat.

holy shit these loans fill up fast. What we would need to do to all get in on one loan would be pick a day & time to converge here, select a loan and all go to it immediately and loan. Thoughts?

Know a girl who's going to Ghana next week to work for nine months.

a) She's perfect

b) I gave her the info on Augustina Ayaah's bar in Accra, the original OTP loan recipient. Hopefully she'll find her and take pictures. She's a journo too so she's actually looking forward to the sleuth work

I know foreign service workers posted in Ghana and also told them to keep an eye out, but these places are near-impossible to track down. Addresses are sort of meaningless in the developing world -- and we don't even have one to go by.

Semi-related article about giving people basic living assistance, and the start-ups they created.

Cool idea, and I hope they can continue and expand the program.

By the looks of things, there are a few bars in Kasangati, Uganda. And according to Wikipedia, thugs with history degrees come out at night in the town.

So I'm not sure if this man is as worthy as Augustina in Ghana was, but I think it's time for another OTP pub.

There are other options for pubs in Uganda as well. Here's another, this time in Bungokho:

If you haven't signed up on Kiva yet, you might be able to send one of the free $25 loans today that Dermalogica is sponsoring to help women in support of International Women's Day.

I got an email promoting this and thanking me for "doing so much for women already." I'm using that quote forever.

I checked out our team's activity... I feel left out, I still haven't lent any money to a Peruvian business yet. Apparently that's our most popular country.

I've been burned by people in the African area and unfortunately most of the Middle east including eastern Europe is too high risk.

One of the options was an American who wanted to "upgrade" his home music recording studio. WTF?

And another was a guy who wanted a PlayStation for his internet cafe.

I'm done after beer guy. Kiva's gone downhill.

I've got 20 + loans I've made to Africa with only 1 default. It was a male. The females, especially in groups, have been great about paying back. So my rule for Africa, where I want to do the most lending, is to stick to the lasses.

I've gotta go make some loans, I have some credit available but haven't gone to lend in a while. I've only lent to women so far, they've always paid back.

Yeah I usually don't lend to the USA folks looking for handouts (figure I do enough of that through taxes). Joey's garage was an exception. He provided great updates and was very thankful.
