Looks like it's a fairly narrow strand that has pushed it's way to town, so I wouldn't expect the retreat itself to be in danger but again, the road to it and the town itself is in the path.

Hawaiian lava flows are the slowest moving disasters on earth. Like, the polar ice cap melting seems quicker.

Lava flow just crossing the property line of the first house that appears to be in the path of the lava. The renters have long since packed their things and gotten out. Sounds like fire dept might try to direct the flow around the house, but if it hits the house, it's gone, they aren't going to try and fight it, just contain the fire to the house.

See the slow, slow pace of new earth being created, and the path at which it destroys everything right now to do so.

Morning news still not coming in from Hawaii, but the latest map from last night shows the lava flow going literally just north of the first house. I assume the house goes at some point when some of the lava further up expands the front but no images of a house on fire seem to have shown up on social media as of yet. Some power poles are facing incredible heat even with all their protection and seem like they won't be able to withstand it. Noble effort, but the volcano is still a bit too much for us at this point.

The comments to that picture just prove people will bitch about anything. Damned if you do damned if you don't. I wouldn't even pretend to know what this guy has worked out with his neighbors....or even where he lives in relation to anyone else. I've spent much time in Hawaii and redirecting lava flows is certainly not in the Ohana or Aloha spirit (and would probably get him f**ked up). It fits the asshole tendencies of the mainlanders who may be reading the story though.

Yeah, if that guy redirects the flow into someone else's home he's facing lawsuits well in excess the costs of losing his own home. It's the very reason the government doesn't try to direct it, they really don't know where it'll end up. They don't know every square inch of topography of the area.

There's a point where you just gotta let nature win. If you live by a volcano, this might happen.

Looks like the first home escaped initial contact, the flow diverted literally just north of the property, but a second breakout of the flow will get it very soon. 100 ft away.

50 homes in the flow's path, far more if this hits the ocean. The volcano is still erupting. This isn't slowing down. There's more breakouts further away from the town, this will be a slow, slow destruction and it'll be a lot wider by the end of all this.

The lava flow will eventually reach the ocean according to current projections. This flow will essentially cut off that part of the island from the rest of it for a while.

So even if you save your home, dude... you'll be in the middle of nowhere.

Well then, sadly I stand corrected....apparently mainland asshole mentality has made a home on the big lsland. Living on an island atop an active hotspot does come with its own set of problems.

Most did not want to go on camera. This is a tight knit community that resembles more of an extended family than anything else -- but many of them expressed to me their concerns the berm will divert the lava flow to homes outside the steepest path of descent line it appeared to be heading down.

Here is a better map of the flow direction relative to the island itself:

Mileka Lincoln's Instagram is pretty much the best for reports on this. Above is the lava flow in the day, looking to head right for the douchebag's berm to protect his house and torch his neighbour's.

And here is what it looks like at night. Fucking incredible.

Actually no. They did a great job with the banking crisis.

http://www.spiegel.de/international/eur ... 42387.html

They let their big banks go under, punished foreign investors (global capital, the 1% elites)

And they threw the executives and CEO's in jail.

What have both the left and right in America been calling for?

On top of that they reformed their banking sector:

And they fuck a whole hell of a lot.

God loves Iceland...

Hold up now, I believe when I commented there the cleanup hadn't happened yet. The fact they got into that mess is still a major fuck-up on their part. But they did indeed learn, unlike America.

Yes.

And I failed to check the date this thread began until too late.

Sorry.

There was a breakout that seemed to be heading for the transfer station that has also now stalled. Pele, the Hawaiian goddess that consumes all land, is teasing everyone.

The most active breakouts are back 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the transfer station, and could ultimately lead to widening the front significantly. Basically the entire area near the town/cemetery is of very low activity right now and they're even saying the very tip, which stalled out at that guy's berm, can be touched now it's cooled off that much.

In other words, this near brush with Pele is almost certainly a warning and she'll be back for more later.

I may have already posted this...apologies in advance if I have.

My sister-in-law's husband took lava rocks home with him from our vay-cay in Hawaii, something that is discouraged because Pele doesn't approve and reportedly will fuck your life up. We even read a book that was kept in the lobby of one of the places we stayed that contained letters returning the rocks after supposedly suffering misfortune following their removal. So far, he's been fine, but superstition is in my blood as a kooky Korean. No way am I messin' with that mojo.
