I can't say I've ever been a big Alt-J fan. Played "Tesellate" before they got big when I was DJing a party and everyone kept asking me what it was, but it's been diminishing returns since then.

Gotta say, I like the new song and lo-poly vapourwave aesthetic. With an album called Relaxer, I think they've developed a much-needed smidge of self-awareness.

Pearl Jam's upcoming induction into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame (and the fact they invited all 20 of their former drummers to the event, even though they won't all be getting in) made me think of Jack Irons' original band, Eleven. Loved this tune when I was a wee lad. It's definitely a 90s tune but not in a bad way.

Wow. So I'm only now just learning about Death, this unknown band from Detroit.

So these guys were pumping out punk music before punk was a thing, in Motown of all places. They were denied a record deal from record exec extraordinaire Clive Davis when they refused to change their name. Their stuff would sit unreleased until well over 30 years later when their music came to the attention of an indie label based in Chicago.

It don't get much more punk than that.

One of Death's members moved to Vermont and raised his kids there. Now they're grown up and in a pretty good punk band called Rough Francis.

You're forgetting that Iggy and the Stooges and the MC5 were pumping out pre-punk in Detroit in the mid to late 1960's.

Friends and family who haven't liked any new music since Oasis in the 90's are flipping out about the new Harry Styles. Who would've thought a One Direction member would be the one to save rock n roll? Yeah, it sounds like Rod Stewart singing a glam anthem, but somehow it doesn't feel like a retread or cheesy.

Goldfinger...haven't aged well!

A few songs are still fun, though.

Yep...the Chainsmokers are definitely NOT my cup of tea.

But the wife liked 'em.

A B-side that also appeared on the Much at Edgefest '99 CD, and still one of my favorite tunes from Big Wreck.

Greta Van Fleet has come to save us from the terrible state of music! There is hope for young people yet!

My rock friends love these guys. They sound good, do the Zep thing well. The decline/classical musicification of rock really hit home checking out this year's Coachella lineup. Even these guys, who've been pretty hyped, barely cracked the 5th row on their day.

Can't go wrong with some April Wine! Sadly I know very little about that Coachella lineup.

I did recently support a band from Chilliwack BC.....The Darkest Of The Hillside Thickets....probably the first album I've purchased in quite some time off of some site called bandcamp.com

Has anyone ever heard of Palaye Royale? I guess a band out of Toronto/Vegas. This Remington Leigh fellow has a kickass voice. I first heard him singing on the American Satan soundtrack. It was hard to find the singer because the guy that plays the dude singing is the Black Veil Brides singer and does not have as kick ass of a voice as Mr Leigh. Reminds me of old Taime Downe.......uh oh just dated myself.

An interesting question posed by acclaimed comics writer Jonathan Hickman.

https://twitter.com/JHickman/status/979600643043229696

Quote:
You are only allowed to take one album with you on an interstellar journey that will stray off course and be engulfed by a star after 10 years.

It cannot be a 'best of,' cannot be by Sinead O'Conner, must contain songs with words, and you must listen to it each day.

Choose.

I love that he just ruled out Sinead by default.

My response:

Quote:
Peter Gabriel - 2nd Album

As the Star engulfs me in glowing, radiant pain, “White Shadow” plays in the background.

But actually, I may have to change my answer...much as I love that song, "A Wonderful Day in a One-Way World" would be far more fitting.
