Speaking of goners...

Here lies Pink Floyd, 1964-2014

Pretty decent run. Too bad I didn't go and watch them when I had the chance.

Pink Floyd's music has not aged well.

Still on vacation. Spent the whole day listening to The Killers, for some reason.

Shot At the Night is an underrated one. Super cheesy Higher Love ripoff with Brandon Flowers hamming it up Elvis-style.

Haven't really enjoyed 311's stuff for a while, but I really like it when this song comes on in the car on my player.

Miley Cyrus made an album with the Flaming Lips. It's long and weird, but kinda awesome in parts.

St. Germain is back. New album is less coffee shop house and more coffee shop Malian. Either way, it's very relaxing.

Right now, I'm digging the Polar Express theme song. Shrug.

Neil Peart announces his retirement.

I assume, since he was not only their drummer, but their lyricist as well, that this means the end of Rush as well.

Geddy's voice is shot -- check R40.

Roll the Bones was the last album of theirs I truly enjoyed. I didn't care much for Counterparts, and can't recall a single song off Test for Echo. I haven't really listened to any of their stuff since.

Many of you here are probably too young to know about Country Dick Montana.

Country Dick Montana was the drummer and part time frontman for the Beat Farmers who along with Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper came out of San Diego in the mid Eighties and were known for their raucous shows. Country Dick was one of a kind who would stand on stage with his stetson hat, trench coat and a beer in his hand singing about drinking, women and anything else sleazy he could think of. During the show he would say to the crowd, "Take me to the bar!" and then crowd surf over to the bar to get a drink then crowd surf back to the stage. He was known to be at the bar before the show and drink with the fans, many of them buying Dick his drinks. Unfortunately his lifestyle caught up to him and he died of a heart attack at the Longhorn Saloon in Whistler Village three songs into the Beat Farmers set. That happened twenty years ago last month.

I never got a chance to see the Beat Farmers being I worked shift work most of my adult life and when they were touring, June (my wife) and I had a young family which kept us busy. I've been practicing my guitar playing for the last six years and am looking to jam around the metro Vancouver area with the possibility of playing in a band. If I ever get the chance to play at the Longhorn, I hope Country Dick's ghost joins me on stage. Here's to the man:

This should probably be in the Bela Lugosi thread, but I figured it belonged here instead. Don't know how much Cracked is embellishing here but there's good reason to think what's being said here is true.

The fact that Bowie intentionally "sold out" just to spite his former manager makes me love the guy even more.

Astounding number of layers in Bowie's "Heroes," broken down by Tony Visconti. Well worth the 20 minutes.

Times like this I wish I had more than a tin ear for these sorts of things.

Some things I've learned about Pandora.

Their Dio and Iron Maiden catalog is vast (good)

Their Styx catalog is equally vast (not so good)

Their Bowie catalog is ridiculously thin (awful). It's basically all Tin Machine and a handful of his hits. Not a single song from the Berlin Trilogy. Not even anything from Scary Monsters or his "industrial" phase from the 90s.

I've liked Deftones stuff, but I can't really remember listening to an album the whole way through.

New Kanye. Yeezus' production was damn near perfect, in my opinion, so The Life of Pablo feels like a bit of a letdown. Some great tracks on it, though. Solid post-trifecta era Kanye, who has lost something in the rapping department but still knows how to put together a solid tune.
