Good tune.

Anyways, is this our de facto music review thread? I don't know.

I got the new Kanye album without hearing anything about it, which is amazing for me. I've really paid little attention to new music this year and I'd like to jump back in there and get caught up on things, but I had to start with this...

It's very interesting to see the reaction to the album after listening to it myself. Everyone is seemingly Kanye bashing, saying it's a result of his overindulgence and excess... but I think it's a charmer. He sings way more than he raps, although he never really rapped anyways.

Is it his best material? No. But I didn't think his last album was that special, save for a few great tracks. Could he have had more fun? Yeah, I suppose. It could've been his Pinkerton style depressing album, but here's the weird thing... it is kinda fun. It's a downer, but he's having fun sonically with it.

Every major artist needs that oddball album. Kanye's delivered his. And he's still the top artist of the decade by far. :awesomecylon:

This weekend I watched the movies Control and the documentary Joy Division. Both were really great and have resulted in my becoming re-addicted to the song Love Will Tear Us Apart. I can't stop listening to it. It's such a beautiful song.

You ever see "24 Hour Party People" Maureen? Ian Curtis and JD play a fairly substantial part in that film--it's not a masterpiece by any means but it's still worth a watch.

It's one of my favourite movies.

Tony Wilson to A Certain Ratio: "The smaller the crowd the bigger the history. There were 12 people at the last supper. Half a dozen at Kitty Hawk. Archimedes was on his own in the bath."

Tony Wilson: "I think that Shaun Ryder is on a par with W.B. Yeats as a poet."
His future wife: "Really? Because everyone thinks he's a fucking idiot."

God to Tony Wilson after an especially good joint: "It's a pity you didn't sign the Smiths. But you were right about Mick Hucknall. His music's rubbish, and he's a ginger."

I haven't watched it in a while - but I remember really enjoying 24 hour Party People! I think I might have to rent it this weekend and see it again. I love Joy Division and New Order. They were the soundtrack to so many really great times in my life.

Ah New Order...in grade ten I wore out my Low Life cassette, still love that album.

Interesting, we continued and still do call cassettes albums or album on cassette, but CD's became just CD's.

It took a couple of months, but I'm really starting to dig the new TV on the Radio album, Dear Science:

It is the funky apocalyptic dance record I always wanted. Antibalas provide the funky horn section.

One of the greatest (and my current favorite) music videos of all time as envisioned by one of the best directors out there today.

Nice! You must be the only other person on the planet besides me that really enjoys that song!

When it gets time for some real fast stuff, skip it forward to the last song: Titanium Expose.
