I was at Arcade Fire's Haiti fundraiser last night and they played Talking Heads songs with David Byrne and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Naive Melody was perfect.

This is what you are going to miss next week Butch!

Probably the first Set list and Maiden show where I won't know most of the songs......

Well with the weird murals inside and the demonic horse greeting travelers outside, DIA is definitely the most metal airport in the US.

Tragic news about Gord Downie - historic tour in the making.

I don't think I've listened to a full Hip since...Phantom Power, maybe? What do I need to know about seeing them live?

I recently profiled the friend of someone who lived with a brain tumour for 20 years, so you never know.

If I had to rank post-PPower albums, I'd go new singles first, then:

1. In Between Evolution (Awesome album)

2. In Violet Light (closest thing to a Phil Collins-y album)
3. Music at Work (experimental, twitchy)

4. We Are the Same (return to form album)

5. World Container (boring, "indie")
6. Plan A (Snoozer)

The Hip are different live because Gord Downie rambles beatnik poetry during the instrumentals. Sorta improvised, but he'll go back to certain themes. He's an incredible frontman, maybe the best I've ever seen. They're always very generous with the hits. The band is so tight and reserved. They're content to play in the background. Expect to sing along.

These shows might be different since I don't know how Gord will be.

I might have enjoyed a Hip show even more back when I was more into them, but I have to see them at least once. Time to brush up on the more recent stuff.

I've gotta be twenty plus years removed from seeing them in Buffalo and I went with a casual appreciation of some songs here and there than as a super fan, but the arena was certainly full of super fans. Canadian and Hip Patriotism was in full synergy and the crowd energy was such I doubt they could have done a bad show had they tried, everyone was too proud of their special possession to see anything but greatness. Luckily I can attest as the not the fully anointed in attendance they where actually both tight, entertaining, and free flowing.

Was at Osheaga all weekend. Caught the last half of headliner Radiohead, which was the right half to see:

Everything in Its Right Place
Idioteque
There There
Let Down
Paranoid Android
Exit Music
Karma Police
Creep (Yes, really)

Great encore right there. Before that it was mostly the boring new record.

Huh. Thought I shared this story before on here but apparently not(can't find anything in search).

On our honeymoon in St. Lucia, we went to a really nice restaurant off the resort for dinner one night. During dinner, this 3-song set came on: Drinking in LA by Bran Van 3000. Karma Police and Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead. It was fucking amazing.

Also, we heard 3 different versions of the Sign by Ace of Base: regular on our booze cruise(I think other than some reggae the only music they played was that album), piano version at the resort bar, and a steel drum band version in a car ride to an off-resort thing.

In Myrtle Beach, I heard Meet Virginia by Train; Someday, Every Morning and When It's Over(I think) by Sugar Ray. I got a kick out of that.

Well, that was a 2.5-hour outpouring of love for a national treasure. I think at any point in the show no more than 5% of the entire crowd might have been sitting down. It was unbelievable. So glad I went but sad that Anam couldn't come to the show.

EL: Spoilers of set list here if you don't want to read.

Quote:
They played 4-song sections from Road Apples, Man Machine Poem, Music @ Work, Trouble at the Henhouse, Fully Completely. 3 songs from Day For Night and then finished with Bobcaygeon and Poets. Fireworks would have been a killer end too(I was never big on Poets). They're so tight and put on a great show. Gord barely into his rambling/poetry. The band left Gord on the stage at one point for a few minutes to just bask in the love of the crowd.

As part of the Leafs centennial, they've been sending the banners out to the players' hometowns, but Bill Barilko's hung in the rafters last night.

Shitty focus but here were our seats. Not really close but the first row was great.
