Doesn't Dave have cancer? Man, this is a long tour.

I saw Chicago band Whitney in concert last night. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. If you like The Band-style folky rootsy rock with a horn player and wild keys. Their drummer doubles as a singer, a bit like Levon Helm. Highly recommend if they're coming to your town.

Another Genesis reunion, folks. Hard to believe the last one was over a decade ago. So far, only shows in the UK.

It's another Collins, Banks, Rutherford reunion sans PG. They even dumped longtime co-drummer Chester Thompson for Phil's 18 year old son, which feels like a crappy business decision.

I'm still weirdly excited, even if I won't be going to any of the shows and I'm sure the setlist will be pretty lazy with only a medley or two of actual good stuff.

A true Genesis reunion with the classic lineup would be a very strange one to market. There are generations of fans who might not even know Peter Gabriel was the lead singer before Phil Collins, and the prog-era stuff NEVER gets radio play. The best way to do it would be to make it a gigantic medley of Genesis and solo stuff, I'd pay to see that in a heartbeat.

Welp, that show sure didn't happen. Neither did Santana with Earth Wind and Fire, rescheduled for 2022.

A favorite of mine, The Bright Light Social Hour, are playing shows in the US and are as close as Ferndale, Michigan in September on a Tuesday. Don't think I'm ready to try the border for a show.

Third Eye Blind is playing in Thunder Bay in September too. No go on convincing Anam on going to that one

Saw Hot Water Music at the Phoenix with my older brother on Saturday, my first show since Tool in Nov 2019. It was great to be able to go and see a live show.

Mandatory mask sign on the door. Mike and I had N95s. A lot of people masked inside, some had it off for drinking beers, some just weren't wearing it. The venue can't be expected to wade through a crowd that big and enforce it.

Seeing I Mother Earth with both Edwin and Brian Byrne on April 30, again at the Phoenix. My brother sent me an instagram post that Pulley is touring too, June 1st at Velvet Underground. Might go to that show as well.

I Mother Earth played on Saturday with both of their singers. 23 songs, 1 set with each singer and then an absolute killer encore starting with Edwin and finishing with both he and Brian. What a damn show. I had never seen Edwin live and the guy still sounds just like the albums and has a great stage presence. I didn't really have expectations for what was coming but he blew me away.

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/i-mother ... 7b0c0.html

Tons of hits, some amazing non-singles. They varied it from the Ottawa show which was really cool too.

Erik's review of Imagine Dragons' Montreal show is so good it almost makes me wish I was there. Almost.

Sloan and I Mother Earth on October 27th at the Phoenix.

I don't think I've ever seen Sloan live. And despite being so big into 90's Canadian alternative, I never owned a Sloan CD and wasn't a big fan. It might have been Money City Maniacs getting an insane amount of play while I was working and I wasn't a fan of that song. Regardless, I'm really looking forward to the show, seeing IME again and Sloan for the first time. Revisiting Sloan's hits makes me think that if they had British accents they would have been way more massive outside of Canada.

I can't afford concerts anymore. $15 beers.......$100 plus tix. I am done! MIGHT see Muse in Denver or the odd once a year Zepplin tribute up at Red Rocks and that's probably it unless Maiden keeps touring.

Not much into concerts anymore--most of the acts I listen to are on the cruise circuit now, and not many tours swing through Nebraska anyway.

Anam and I went to 7 or 8 shows in 2019 before Covid. I think after some of my favorite bands from the 90's got back together and with Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip passing away and seeing them on their final tour, I wanted to see bands while they're still playing. Some bands I didn't really have an interest in seeing before that I was into, I'll go see now.

Wise......by the time I moved out here and saw bands that I followed....they were shadows.....Probably one of the worst concerts I have ever seen was Motley Crue, Leppard and Styx (the best one out of the lot)......and that was some years ago. They are touring again this year...I can only imagine how bad that is! That would take a lot of $15 beers to be enjoyable.

Traveling up to Calgary to see the Tea Party at the Native Casino was also terrible....the carpet smelled like a funky dishwasher (ass and feet) and Tea Party was certainly not at their best.

I saw Dirty Heads and Stick Figure up at Red Rocks this year. Stick Figure was just ok but the Dirty Heads were pretty good.

Maiden was excellent, as always, just really pricey. I had a fantastic time with the Family and that's what it was all about for me.

I am fortunate to have seen a full scale Roger Waters the Wall production (while he was still good), Black Sabbath (all the old boys) and Fleetwood Mac (the full original lineup). So keep doing what you are doing because the prime ends pretty fast for touring acts.

How was the IME concert? My wife really liked them back in the day.

After 10 years of concert reviewing for the daily paper, I've hung up my metaphorical media laminate. I'd say it had turned into a job, but the last show I reviewed was Alanis Morrissette and I had an absolute blast, so sometimes an artist can make it feel fun again. Looking forward to seeing club shows on my own dime in 2023.
