Yup. Sam, where are you right now? Still around Toronto?

I think a significant part of Sours being popular is no one knows for sure what they should taste like so even if you make a shit one not many people will be brave enough to state that and you can still sell your shitty made craft beer sour along side any good ones.

Though to be fair I think they are all shit unless they had been dry hopped then they are just a little bit shit.

I like sours a lot, but within reason. I can drink one, then the taste kinda messes my palette. You're right that some brewers take liberties with making it juice-like, but it should still be beer in some form.

Still on the lookout for a summer beer. I miss the Harpoon Brewery summer pack. Hopefully the border with VT opens soon...

I'm not a sour fan at all. I will basically only grab the ones from Orange Snail in town.

But the slushies...they are delicious.

I think this beer was the closest I ever was to pouring one down the drain, but I powered through it.

I wish the obsession with IPAs wasn't such a thing. Feels like 75% of craft brews are some form of bitter hoppy syrup.

Love most sours though.

Two of the best beers of the summer, Beau's Tom Green Summer Stout and Muskoka's Tropical Summerweiss, both not on the shelves. More IPAs and sours on the shelves. Fuck.

One of my neighbours who primarily drinks Heineken, has gotten into their 0%, 70 calorie offering. Another neighbour stopped drinking in July, extended it into August and is now drinking Partake's 10-calorie IPA https://drinkpartake.com/

I didn't mind the IPA and so I ordered the sampler with a Red, Blonde, and Stout, all of which are 30 calories or less.

Still love me the heavy imperial stouts, but we'll see where this goes and how much they'll replace my regular weekend beers and the odd pop.

Five beers got me pretty drunk last weekend. Nothing over 6%. I've replaced some of the beers with weed and my waistline appreciates it and my tolerance has dropped significantly.

Can't remember the last time I had more than two beers in one sitting....

Once again I am begging breweries and the lcbo to release at least one fucking stout or some kind of dark ale or porter instead of 5 different IPAs and 4 different sours. Even in the fall, its a fucking barrage of endless IPAs and sours.

Muskoka has canned their annual Winter Beard Imperial Cranberry Stout clocking in at a reduced 8% at a very reasonable $4.85 per can. Once again, I am left a little disappointed in a beer that I feel could/should be a lot better but its a cheaper disappointment. Wellington's old reliable Russian Imperial Stout is still really good. Ordered a bunch of their UVB-76 limited release again, along with the Chai Latte Stout and some 0% 0cal "hop waters".

Yeah I work through cellar beer at this time. Late Nov and early Dec you see the LCBO start to get the darker beers showing up more. That said I think you can still find some Belgium's all year.

Brought out some 2015 Rochefort 10s with the neighbourhood Dads a couple of weeks back when we did a Thanksgiving potluck/birthday celebration. Those are here all year round and they are at a local LCBO. The Milton LCBOs are pretty lacking in the beer selection, though, even during Stout season.

Agreed! What is it with the lack of stouts in Ontario, at least.

2015 Rochefort 10s? Are stouts aged?

Rochefort 10's a Belgian quad that I think is sold unaged(Hounsy can correct me if I'm wrong). Every once in a while I'll pick up a few and let them sit in the my storage room, so those ones I've had almost as long as my kids. I've got some 2014, 2015 and maybe some 2019 in there?

Holy shit - how did I not know that. And you get these from the LCBO off shelf, or do you order?

They're year-round on the shelf.

https://www.lcbo.com/webapp/wcs/stores/ ... ctId=58462

There are limitations on the amount that can be purchased at a time of the Abbey beers but somehow the LCBO gets those all year round. Hounsy, did you ever find out how they do that?

I still have two 2013 Rochefort 10's in my cellar. All Trappist beer that make it to the LCBO are good, but yeah Rochefort ten is the pinnacle. Find two years aging is ideal and not much change after that. The main difference I get when aged is the bite(acidic feel) of the high ABV settles and the sweetness of the malt strengthens.

Added advice, Trappist and imperial stout beers are best in a wide glass that your nose can get into. large red wind glasses are ideal and many people have a few of those around.
