Just ordered iPhone 4s for my wife. She's a Mac-addict and hated her LG, whatever the hell it was. We'll see.....

I was torn between going iPhone or Droid for my first-ever smartphone, so I posted a question on Facebook a while back and got nearly a 50/50 split in the responses.

Much as the iPhone fascinates me, probably going with a Droid. A few months with a touchscreen-only phone shows me I need a keyboard, dammit!

Picked up an Kobo vox ereader/android tablet week and half ago. Happy with it for $199 Canadian, reads in colour for kids, browse web, check mail, some apps, and play videos off my server or streamed DIVX through web site. 7 inch screen and six hour battery life. Now need to find out if a flash player can get me running hockey streams on it.

I wouldn't get a touchscreen phone except for the iPhone. But then again, that's because I was raised on Apple. I put up with Mac Performas, I can definitely put up with touchscreen technology!

all I can stress on the phone thing is if you are torn between an iPhone and an Android and go Android do not go with a budget model. They tend to be significantly cheaper for reasons and the cheap ones will not perform as well.

Even with Siri, I can't see a good reason to upgrade my 4 now that it has iOS5 on it. The dual-core processor is nice but the biggest drawback right now isn't processing; it's 3G speeds that vary. Last week, the 3G signals on my phone slowed to an absolute crawl at work.

And from what I've heard about the Android phones, its that you MUST try it before you buy it. There are so many flavors of Android that they don't all work as well or are as responsive as other newer phones. Also, be sure that your phone is on the list that will get the newest Android OS update (ice cream sandwich?) as they are not created equally.

I'm waiting for the new google phone - the nexus prime.

The nexus phones seem to be more bare bones, but much better in the long run.

The nexus s is a great phone without the bloat wear that htc and the others dress droid up in.

Got a Droid 3. 3G works just fine for me, and the Verizon guy warned me 4G drains batteries like crazy. Loving the world of smartphones! Now if we could just get an OTP app....

My wife's likely opting for the 4S, which is kinda cool since we'll get to sample both Apple and Google simultaneously and see what advantages/disadvantages there are. So far I love my Droid 3.

I am torn on this. On one hand I love Apple products & dig my wife's iphone 4s. On the other, all the waterproof cases for iphone suck. You have to take them completely apart to charge the phone, and therefore risk getting dirt/dust/dog hair or anything else that begins with a d, stuck to the o-ring. I am not only a clutz, but also work in aquatic environments often, so I need a waterproof phone.

There's the g'zone Commando- waterproof smartphone. I have the g'zone brigade now- but want a smartphone. Not sure I dig the droid stuff. Seems like you've got to be more tech savvy than I am, and care to be. I just want basic stuff, don't need to run my space shuttle through my phone...

I'm conflicted. :?

Happy to see this thread.

Was looking at the new Galaxy Nexus but decided against it simply because of its size and build quality. I'm trying to wait for the IP5 or the Samsung S3, but .... with a release date of this fall, that's an awful long wait.

Anyone using the Galaxy Nexus? And has anyone used the microsoft-based phones?

Time to update my 3GS iphone. Going to look at the Samsung Galaxy SII and the iphone 4s, but my mind is starting to try and convince me that the Samsung note is a perfectly acceptable size to be lugging around. Guess we will see later today what I think when I get my hands on them at the store.

At the end of the day my phone requirements in order are portable internet device, Camera, texting, E-mail, video, and then phone calls.
