Went with the Samsung note in the end as it still fit in my pocket and hand just fine.

I got an iphone 4s with a Lifeproof case. Case doesn't add much bulk at all, is waterproof, good drop protection, etc. Kind of a pain in the ass to connect to other things, but all in all, I dig the phone so far.

Broke my Samsung Galaxy 3G S phone screen and got my wifes Samsung 4G galaxy S. She likes to upgrade.......I promptly rooted it and it is much better. We could get into rooting some time.....that's ridiculous. I wouldn't buy another Samsung if they paid me....I'll stick to HTC if I do upgrade next time but I would like to try the Microsoft phones. Bought a cheap chinese rubber protector for the outside this time.

What I find really cool is the WD2Go app that links my Home Storage Server to my phone allowing me to access it from anywhere.....MMA, Ancient Aliens and my entire music library anytime there is Wifi.

The Wife and I both use Samsung phones(Nexus and Note) and been happy what was wrong with the Galaxy phones you've had?

I just got a Samsung for work. Forget the model name. It's the "rugged" one- waterproof, etc. Seems, eh, so far.

Well keep in mind I am dealing with the Galaxy S 3G and 4G models.....not the SII or SIII (or your note or Nexus). Now that I rooted the 4G S it works well......sometimes it randomly reboots but I think that's because I have a 32 G SD card in there that isn't quite compatible.

I made that post when I was very unhappy with all of the issues I was having with my phones. Samsung is too expensive to fix when broken and I found them to be slow. I would move on at this point. The HTC works very well so far for the old girl. I would buy a Samsung tablet however. Of course you all know I steer clear of Apple....so none of that is going to fly with me.

Any advice on tablets? Want something with a bigger screen than a phone(and without a plan costing me 70+ bucks a month!) but not cart around a laptop while on vacation, primarily to use wifi browsing. Don't really want to spend more than 300 bucks.

The wifi Kindle has a web browser but it's all but useless for any real browsing - it doesn't support multiple tabs or windows. I heard that you can jailbreak these and put a better browser on it... Have you looked at other ebook readers? These seem to be your best bet, price-wise.

Waiting on the upgraded Google Nexus 10 in the fall (Qualcomm processor vs Nvidia)....then I will buy one. That's probably out of the range you mentioned though. The 7 inch Wifi only models fit your price range. That looks more my size and range as well.

If I can afford it I might snag the Microsoft Surface Pro. I've heard the current Surface is a piece of crap, but the Pro will be a fully-functioning computer, not just a tab, and I've heard it'll actually respond to a stylus like a pen tablet.

Finally made the switch to a smartphone. Bought the biggest one that I know of, the Note II. Compensating.

I've had a Note 1 for about a year now and no complaints. The flip cover keeps the screen safe and scratch free with no ugly screen shields. As well the couple of short waist high drops I've given it other than some minor corner denting have not slowed it down.
