While fusion energy would be a gamechanger for the climate crisis — which is caused primarily by humans burning fossil fuels — it’s a technology that’s still likely to need many years to commericialize. By the time it’s fully developed, it would be too late to use it as a main tool to address climate change, according to Aneeqa Khan, research fellow in nuclear fusion at the University of Manchester.
Flush it!
I decided a long, long time ago that society would probably never take climate catastrophe seriously until too late and thus technology would be the only solutions. Fusion + Carbon capture + sequestration are three big pieces. Fusion is close, and it will make the second and third cheaper so even more likely.
In the meantime all the things I've been doing to lower my carbon foot print just helps to buy time for the technology and reduce the suffering for others. Still worth it.
