I have a love/hate with Dark Souls.

I would get obsessive and play for days on end, but then I'd hit a wall so insurmountable and quit. It's a hard game to jump back into afterwards.

I can't remember many games where I've said fuck this, but Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was one. I got to either the last or second-to-last boss battle, and it fucking autosaved after I had used up all healing items to the point where it was impossible. Took that game and traded it in for credit at blockbuster or BestBuy or something. Fuck that.

Holy fuck you die a lot in Elden Ring.

Oh hi let's sneak up and stab you. Ok, killed those guys AND NOW THERE'S SOME GIANT ASS BEAR OR SPIDER OR SOME SHIT.

I started as a wretch, which is apparently balanced but not great to start with if you haven't played the souls game. Lost a lot of the damn runes that I need to level up.

I have passed out twice now trying to play this. I chose the Prisoner. i saw the big horse dude and totally avoided him....I then got to the church and passed out in my chair. Old people gaming! It took me a few stuttered starts to get going on Cyberpunk too.

I guess I am not too sure on the fight or flight technique here.

Loving Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

Basically Kirby crash lands his star on what's presumably Earth, only mankind is long extinct and our malls and oil rigs have become consumed by nature and are now Kirby's playground where he can find stars and eat things.

Kinda a statement about how Earth will long outlive humanity, feels very Japanese in that regard.

Jokingly called Elden Ring for kids because it has some tricky boss battles, but the bosses are cute trees that shoot acorns.

My wife also digs Sky Children of Light, from the Journey makers.

I decided to save Elden Ring for later and went with Horizon Forbidden West.

Any good? Looks great, kinda seems like a brainless hack n slash to me, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I explored a lot, died a lot, levelled up and return to boss battles when they are much easier. I started out using a shield but have nearly abandoned it. Figured out how well jump attacks work. Riding the horse to kill shit is excellent.

Marvel's Mightnight Suns - a turn-based Marvel RPG? Could be amazing.

Interesting....DC is also in the mix with Gotham Knights an open world action RPG. No previous gen support so only for PC, PS5 and Xbox S/X

https://www.gothamknightsgame.com/en-us

I have not played Marvel's earlier stabs at this which have been Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy (which I heard was good).

Avengers and GOG were on sale this week as a bundle for $30 so took a shot. We'll see how it goes after Horizon Forbidden West.

Watched my kids play the last 20% of Inside last night - what a great, unexpected ending! Loved it...

Gotta be honest, really not enjoying Breath of the Wild. The UI is such a pain, I spend more time flipping through menus than actually playing. Fight for two seconds and whoops, gotta menu hop a new weapon and make a stew to eat. It never ends. The game looks and sounds incredible, but I've had it with holding down one trigger button while holding down another to change some ability into something else all while avoiding a one-kill ogre. I don't see the fun in that.

Ah yes...inventory management the nitty gritty behind the curtain that can make or break enjoyment (depending on the annoyance-enjoyment balance)! Crafting and fighting is a strange mix....Horizon also does this which at times I can find annoying as I have enough going on without having to craft more arrows running away from giant metal beasts which the camera cannot see. I suppose it does add an element of preparation and terror/confusion but its a grey area if not done right.

I could really go on about this but I won't.

Looking forward to the millenial version of Saints Row soon as well as the resurrected Ubisoft Skull and Bones......

Please go on because I'm trying to psyche myself to play more Breath of the Wild and I need encouragement. I think my wife is pretty bummed I'm not helping her out more, but I just get too frustrated.

I haven't played it myself but the kids (19 and 14 year old girls) loved this game and paid extra for the expansion packs, until they beat the game. Now they are going back to play it to maximize their experience and unlock the entire map before the next iteration comes out.

$55 for Breath of the Wild worth it over the $80 regular?
