Gonna fork out big $$ for a good sucker.

Miele, Dyson or a good hoover canister vac.

Wood and rug floors all over our house that has stairs (canister)

Fat fucking cat that sheds fat fucking hair all over the place.

Any advice?

Please do not post the Leaf Blower picture...

Dysons rock.

Dysons are overrated. We went to a guy who knew his shit about vacuum cleaners down the street and he had a used, refurbished Dyson. So he gave me and the Nebraskan the low-down. Yes, they're powerful. Yes, they have a lot of doohickeys on them that are cool. Yes, they look sleek and high-tech. But they're not worth the exorbitant price you have to pay for them. Even this used one was too much.

We ended up getting one of these for the same price, brand new.

http://www.riccar.com/

Apologies in advance if they're not available in Canada--I didn't check.

No, they don't look like much. In fact they look like they're from a bad '80s infomercial. But we've had ours for at least 6 months now and it's worked perfectly, even after cleaning up the regular mess of kitty litter that destroyed our Hoover. It also has at least twice the suction power of the best Dyson out there.

So yes, this vacuum really sucks.

Dysons aren't bad vacuums, in fact they're very good. But they're also the result of a very clever marketing scheme and some nice aesthetic design, and they cost an arm and a leg. If you're looking for something a little more affordable I highly recommend these.

I like my Kenmore - had it for about 7 yrs & having OCD, it get used quite often.

http://www.kenmore.com/shc/s/p_10154_12 ... Floor+Care

Consumer Reports likes them too & one can be had for under $300-

I recommend black ... it looks rugged & will keep your floors clean.

I bought my Riccar upright for around $200, which is about $10 Canadian.

I have to get one now. My old upright sucks(figuratively, not very literally).

All wood and tile floors in my place, not an ounce of carpet, only a couple of nice rugs. Anyone had great experience with a canister on their floors? BestBuy has a deal right now on a Dyson where you get 80 bucks back on the $650...supposed to be a very good vacuum.

That is the machine I have and it is fine...though I have my doubts I needed to spend that much to get a good Vac.

I wouldn't spend $650 on a f'n vaccuum if my life depended on it. You can get yourself a great set of Infinity P362s for that price!

I don't make the Vacuum purchasing decisions in my house and no when not to get in the way. This was one of those times that getting out of the way was the prudent choice. Had I said anything I would of been told something along the lines of "If you care so much are you going to actually pick it up and use it now?"

Yeah I'm actually the one making the decision on this one. Anam likes the ball upright, but I don't want an upright. Not with stairs.

1. Sucks hard.
2. Good on hardwood/laminate and picks up dust.
3. Light.
4. Long hose for stairs
5. Good on the rugs
6. Good for pet hair (will be getting them eventually)

Bagless isn't really a requirement, but it'd be nice. I want something that'll last a long time(hence spending more money).

Hey I've actually bought some refurbed items over the years from that seller and had no problems. They actually have a pretty big store front these days.

SO many jokes to be had in this thread...

anyway, my mother loaned me this old, dark purple or light brown beat that she had in her apartment in Ottawa... in the 1970's... I think it was a Eureka... anyway, they used it while I was growing up, and for some reason invested in a new one... this old thing was fucking money, sucked up everything...

then the woman tells me the hose broke and its beyond repair, and that we should throw it out...

like Hounsy, I know when to do what I'm told...

problem is... when I told my mother... I honestly do not think I've ever seen her that mad...

damn vacuums...

I'm not spending $650 on a vacuum unless it comes with an, ahem, "human" setting...

Thread resurrection! I ended up buying that Dyson DC23MH. Still love it. No issues. I forget to clean the filter a lot.

I do the vacuuming in my house...is it weird that I like vacuums so much? We have a Dustbuster cordless hand vac, but I want a better hand vac(leaning towards getting a corded one. Way better suction). I have a Shop Vac, but I see a nice Kubota wet/dry at Costco...and I want it.
