Researchers at the US National Ignition Facility in California said fusion experiments had released more energy than was pumped in by the lab’s enormous, high-powered lasers, a landmark achievement known as ignition or energy gain. It's still a long way to go before it reaches power plant use but it is still a very important accomplishment.

Repeated successfully. Does it save humanity in time?

While fusion energy would be a gamechanger for the climate crisis — which is caused primarily by humans burning fossil fuels — it’s a technology that’s still likely to need many years to commericialize. By the time it’s fully developed, it would be too late to use it as a main tool to address climate change, according to Aneeqa Khan, research fellow in nuclear fusion at the University of Manchester.

Flush it!

I decided a long, long time ago that society would probably never take climate catastrophe seriously until too late and thus technology would be the only solutions. Fusion + Carbon capture + sequestration are three big pieces. Fusion is close, and it will make the second and third cheaper so even more likely.

In the meantime all the things I've been doing to lower my carbon foot print just helps to buy time for the technology and reduce the suffering for others. Still worth it.
