Steve Staios has been appointed General Manager and President of Hockey Operations; Dave Poulin joins the team as Senior Vice-President, Hockey Operations; Ryan Bowness has been appointed the team’s Associate General Manager.

Poulin!

Poulin is by all accounts a very well-liked guy who talks the game well, though IIRC the last time he was part of a front office was in Toronto under JFJ. That said, he obviously knows the game.

Staios naming Staios GM reminds me of that one episode of The Office where Dwight holds an Olympics-like event to determine who his Number Two will be and Jim rigs it knowing full well that Dwight will just end up picking himself.

Poulin was under Nonis with Loiselle the "cap guy", when they signed Clarkson to the buyout-proof contract.

Well...hopefully he's learned since then. Nonis was a transcendently bad GM, and I think he'll get another shot someday. Like Chiarelli, he has impeccable connections within the game.

Michael Del Zotto apparently had some not-so-nice things to say about the Sens organization behind the scenes, but I just don't know how much of his shit you can take seriously.

That could go toward one hell of a parlay.

"It was the old GM who was dragging your name through the mud to save some cap space, not me!"

Had one good season when Quinn Hughes showed up, immediately went back to shitting the bed. Just the guy to turn this sinking ship around!

Sens gonna Sens: they wanted Berube, couldn't meet his contract demands, so they turned to Green and gave him four years instead of the industry standard three.

And they said quite clearly that he was going to be head coach for the full length of the deal, which you just know is gonna come back and bite them harder on the ass than Marv Albert.

The Senators have a big choice to make. Do they forfeit the 7th overall pick as punishment for trading Dadonov, or do they roll the dice on 2025 and 2026?

I know the chances of falling apart and getting either Hagens or McKenna are low, but you don't want to be the team that gave away a franchise altering player for a Sam Dickinson type.

I say take the L now and move on from the Dorion era.

I say get it over with too but...I don't think they will.

Maybe they do what the Devils did when they had to forfeit a pick. They held out and somehow managed to get a compensatory first rounder to soften the blow. And like Ottawa, that involved a new owner who had absolutely nothing to do with the "infraction" in question.
