Since left wing Brad Richards (Left wing? That still doesn't seem right) last scored, the Rangers have been outscored by a margin of 15-1. And you could argue the only reason they won against Los Angeles was because Johnny Quick dropped his stick. :rimshot:

Yeah, it's early in the season, but the team already looks terrible, and Rick Nash is concussed. How much more leeway does Sather have?

Is this actually a serious question?

Yeah. If Slats fails to get Lundqvist re-signed, and there's a good chance of that happening, that'll be the last straw.

There must be a worldwide shortage of straws if Slats is nearing his last one.

They miss their taskmaster Torts!

I have read in a few places that they had a brutal pre-season travel schedule, now they are on this big road trip. I guess that buys them some slack but pretty weak excuse.

At least for their sake they are losing all these games to Western teams. It's obviously not good to not get any points, but they aren't giving ground to Eastern teams, so it's not the double edged sword it could have been. They have to hope they straighten this out before coming home. The Garden fans would be brutal if they play like this at home. (Man, I really hope they are still playing like this at home!!!)

New coach, new system, long road trip. Lame, but still kind of valid excuses. Everyone buried the Caps at the beginning of last year, saying Oates wouldn't last til Christmas...

 I just semi-defended the NYR. Excuse while I go puke.

Tough market, saying the new coach wouldn't last before the season even started...

The "coaching swap" the Rags and Nucks pulled appears to not be working out so far. It's true, both have different systems. My concern is that each team was essentially built to the previous coach's system. The Canucks especially had a very specific way they won games, and that started to unravel once Malhotra got hit in the eye and Kesler became increasingly brittle. It's looking more and more like the Rangers were specially built as well, and that too kinda fell apart once Slats traded for Nash.

Just read Michael Sauer wasn't tendered a qualifying offer this offseason and it's very likely his NHL is already over. He's been on the shelf since 2011. Very sad--he started out amazingly well and I don't think it's out of line to say he might be NYR's best defenseman had he stayed healthy. At the very least they could use someone like him on D right now.

Biron and Asham clear waivers, J.T. Miller and Cam Talbot called up.

Kinda sad that Miller, by all accounts a great young two-way player, was sent down merely for salary cap reasons.

The Rags were awful to start the 11/12 season as well. That was when they went to Europe and got to play two games classified as road games (everyone else lost at least one home game, Rangers still got 41 in Manhattan because this is how the NHL works), and made the playoffs comfortably and went to Round 3.

What's worse is he'll have some extra pressure on him from fans since they moved other players to bring him in. Not that either have been overly impressive so far.

But Isles & Devils fans are whiners for pointing out that the Rangers are considered the away team for both of this year's Yankee Stadium games...

I think anyone counting them out already is kidding themselves. They have too good of a team to not make the playoffs. That said, I hope like hell they have a horrible season & Lundqvist walks. :D That's the main reason I think Sather may be pushing the panic button. Lundqvist is not going to like his numbers looking shitty any more than he's going to appreciate playing on a shitty team. He's the one who said a few years ago that his window to win a Cup was closing. He can't be happy.

There are definitely some structural issues with this roster, but yeah, too much talent and it's not like Alain Vigneault forgot to coach. That said, I won't be surprised if Slats once again tries to swing a big trade and make his players and coaching staff scramble to figure out how all the pieces fit together once again. He essentially lost an entire season because he gutted the team's depth in the Nash deal, then traded Gaborik to get all that depth back. Would've been better off if he had just let the talent develop, but this is the Rangers we're talking about.

Someone on OTG pointed out if you add up the salaries dealt in the Nash and Gaborik deals, it amounts to about $1 million in difference. Nevertheless, I still don't think they're as good overall as they were pre-Nash trade. They still could've dealt Gabby, but instead of snagging a bunch of depth guys they could've instead focused on more pressing issues, like maybe getting better on defense.

Finally. A home game. But still same result.

I think Slats may finally be coming to the realization that Torts didn't have the Rangers playing firewagon hockey because this team simply can't play firewagon hockey. They probably had a better chance of doing so before Richards and Nash booted too many players off the roster.

Not sure what happens at this point. The good news is that the Rangers play in hockey's worst division. Still a chance.
