I'm not even going to bother with the link because I don't want you to read the article and give the NY Post clicks, but apparently that douchenozzle Larry Brooks did a hagiographic horseshit article on DeAngelo where he "laid bare his soul" and just lets him frame the narrative however he wants. To make matters worse, the PWHA promoted it on their own social media channels, which tells you how broken the PWHA is, as is the state of journalism in general.

Isles fans have been having fun picking it apart for a few days. Not sure who the bigger asshole is- Brooks or QueAngelo.

They're not doing it with Zibanejad and Lafreniere. Man, they've come out of the gate slowly.

Nazarov was a thug on the ice, and it turns out he’s a thug and a fascist off of it. This is 100% because Panarin, unlike other Russian stars, has been a vocal opponent of Vladimir Putin and a supporter of Alexei Navalny. This is 100% a blatant and orchestrated attempt to publicly discredit him. Really scary when you think about it. And kinda sad too. Putin isn’t going anywhere, holds absolute power in Russia, he’s about to dispatch his arch rival, and yet a couple social media posts from some Russian hockey player living in New York bothered him so much he had his cronies and sycophants put this story together.

Hilarious exchange on Montreal sports radio today:

Host: "Why are the Rangers playing so well right now?"

Pierre McGuire: "Because their coaching staff got covid and Chris Drury and Knoblauch came in."

Rangers might finally be onto something but history suggests they'll find a way to fuck it up.

Zac Jones signed and made his NHL debut. So that's a youth movement on the back end with Fox, Jones, and Miller, and the last of the really bad contracts they have on the books, Brendan Smith, will be gone this summer.

Rangers had an INSANE amount of dead money on the books this season. The buyouts of Lundqvist and Shattenkirk bring massive cap hits that drop significantly next season, but for 2020-21, the Rangers have had to deal with nearly $13 million tied up in players not with the team anymore. So next season they'll have plenty of cap room to do whatever. Of course the inevitable buyout of Tony DeAngelo will bump that number up just a little.

So things appear to be on the right track. Kaako still can't find the back of the net but on a bad defensive team his underlying metrics in that area have been near-elite. There's hope for him yet. Lafreniere appears to be doing fine, just not in the Calder conversation. I still think Gorton has made a ton of mistakes and I still think Quinn is a lousy-ass coach, but so long as they don't Ranger it up they could have a legit contender on their hands in 2022.

One of the ways they could fuck this up? Sell the farm for Jack Eichel.

A weird stat in a very weird season: The Rangers will be the first NHL team in history to miss the playoffs while also leading their division in goal differential. The only team to have a better goal differential and still miss the playoffs is the 1970 Montreal Canadiens.

Of course, take away those two massive blowout wins against the Flyers and I think that differential becomes a little less impressive, but it's still an interesting stat.

There's still 10% of the season left. They could still make the playoffs and/or lose the goal diff title. If they make the playoffs it appears to be likely at the expense of the Isles, so I'm obviously hoping that doesn't happen.

Rangers about to throw six years, 3.6M AAV at Barclay Goodrow. Traded for his rights, even.

He got propped up by his linemates Gourde and Coleman more than the other way around. Rangers just can't help themselves.

Defensively Goodrow is really, really good. It's offense that he isn't good at. Either way it's never a great idea to throw this much term at a bottom sixer, BUT the Rangers are freed of the $12 million cap hit in dead money from the Shattenkirk buyout so you just knew they were gonna start their crazy ways again, especially with Dolan essentially mandating it with his front office changes.

Rangers buy out Tony Q'Angelo.

Rangers trade a 3rd for Ryan Reeves. Dolan finally got the Knicks relatively good so now he's going to ruin the Rangers by poking his nose into player decisions. GRITZ!
Also wonder if it has anything to do with Reeves being on the diversity taskforce or whatever it's called, and the Rangers just bought out Tony Q...

Has a player ever been in a team's head like Tom Wilson with the Rangers?

Well, Tom Wilson with the Pens. Rutherford pretty much derailed a two-Cup winner because he insisted on getting someone, anyone, to beat that guy up.

The Rangers have now overpaid Goodrow and traded for Reaves within a few days. I'd laugh my ass off if the Caps trade Wilson out west or something now. And wasn't it Buchnevich who Wilson originally beat on?

Gooning up your bottom six while also failing to snag a legit scoring line center, which is far and away this team's biggest need.

The six alternate captains for #NYR will be Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Jacob Trouba, Ryan Strome and Barclay Goodrow.

Did Gallant walk into the locker room in an Oprah mask? You get an A, and you get an A, and YOU get an A!

Pick a Captain and move on with life.

Lame. Kreider is obviously the guy they're gonna pin the C on, just get it over with.
