Isles are waiving Golyshev. If they didn't use him while missing 2394723897 players to covid, he's got little hope of sniffing the NHL. Supposedly heading back to the KHL.

Cizikas and Nelson were in the morning skate. First time since Nov 6th (their last win prior to 2 nights ago vs the Sens) that the Isles have nobody in covid protocol! Getting 2 centers back is huge. Hopefully they're both fully ready to go.

That would just leave Pulock out. He was 4-6 weeks, and has been out about 2.5 weeks.

Preds tonight. Isles haven't beaten the Preds with Trotz. Weird.

Fort Always Lose strikes again. Isles had a 3-2 lead a minute into the third and lost 4-3, giving up the losing goal on a deflection with 11.5 seconds to go. The players have to hate this place already. The crowd didn't seem that into the game, even when they had a third period lead. It's like everyone expects them to collapse.

Years ago people joked that the Isles made a deal the prince of darkness to get the 4 Cups, and that's why they were so bad for so long afterwards. Now it looks like they've done it again to finally get a nice, new home. But they can't win in it.

I'm sure they play again soon. I just don't really care when or who that game is against. This team needs to figure out a lot before I can be bothered again.

After a long day, I watched the Isles. They somehow managed to win, at home. For reasons I missed, the Devils had an AHL goalie, but an extremely hot AHL goalie, in net. Isles won 4-2, with a PP goal, SH goal, and 2 even strength goals. Parise got the SH goal, his first as an Isle. They celebrated it like they'd won the Cup. Dobson with another goal. Kid's coming along nicely. Pageau also scored. About 4 struggling Isles missed the empty net, which was empty for about 3 minutes.

Now they don't play until Tuesday in Detroit.

Another game, another loss. 2-1 to Detroit. They made it interesting by scoring with like 2:30 to go, but you don't get points for making it interesting.

Beauvillier was scratched 2 games ago because Trotz said he wasn't playing the right way. How about Palmieri? 1 goal through 1/4 of the season. They basically said screw Eberle and replaced him with Palmieri. Looking like a huge mistake, even if Palmieri is cheaper. Saving money and being cellar dwellers probably wasn't the plan. Palmieri has "come close" to scoring a lot of times, but like you get 0 points for losing while making it interesting, you also don't get goals by getting in close on net but not getting a shot off in the end.

Barzal is now out with covid. That's exactly what this team needed.

Isles beat the Bruins 3-1, losing the shutout on shot 41 with like 53 seconds to play. At least Varlamov finally got a win! Clutterbuck had 2 goals (en) and hit the post on the hat trick attempt. With 11 seconds left Parise probably could have hit the empty net but threw it to the right side for Clutterbuck, who wasn't coming up ice quickly enough. Great to see that Parise, who only has one goal, would try to help out a teammate like that. Even if they wound up not scoring on the play.

Bruins were missing Bergeron and Marchand due to Covid. Same for Barzal.

Palmieri day to day with an LBI. Not the worst thing. He should have been scratched after Beauvillier.

Vegas comes to visit Sunday. Lehner has said it'll be emotional because the Isles helped save his life. Looks like he'll start, as their backup started tonight.

Isles lose in a SO to Vegas after blowing a 3-2 lead that they got with only 2:15 to play in regulation. Clutterbuck, playing in his 900th game, had a goal taken away due to an offside challenge. It didn't look to me like Cizikas' skate was down but I don't have all the angles that the challenge folks do. Either way, they blew a late lead and in the SO Beauvillier faked Lehner out of his pads but hit the post. Then Wahlstrom went in too close to lift it over Lehner's pad. Oh well.

Game today vs the Habs is postponed due to border crossing issues.

Isles are still fucked. Beauvillier, Clutterbuck, Parise and Wahlstrom are all in covid protocol. Barzal is out, but that's +1, -4. What a fucking year.

Maybe the NHL isn't doing such a hot job. I just read that 15 officials are out with covid. Tim Peel asked on Twitter how the league is supposed to have so many games with so few healthy officials. AHL call ups, like the players?

Add Brock Nelson to that list.

Game vs Detroit tonight is postponed due to covid outbreaks on both teams. At least all the postponed games will allow Pulock to be back with more games remaining. Maybe that increases their very slight chances of making the playoffs. Maybe.

There's an Islanders game tonight. :toot:
Palmieri is still out from whatever LBI he suffered in their last game, which feels like it was months ago. So they're down 6 forwards.
And Pulock is obviously still out. Probably another 2 weeks.

NHL & PA have agreed to shorten the quarantine from 10 to 5 days if a player is fully vaxxed and isn't showing symptoms.

Game on!

Clutterbuck, Wahlstrom & Parise are out of covid protocol thanks to the new rules. :toot: :toot: :toot: So they'll only be missing Nelson, Beauvillier and Palmieri out for forwards. Not that Palmieri has been any good this year.

4-1 win vs the Sabres. Old friend Okposo with the Sabres goal. Barzal with 1G & 2A. Dobson with 1G & 1A.
Nice to see a win. It's been a while.

If anyone can do the last to Cup thing from January on like the Blues, it's the Islanders. But it won't be easy.

Well it'll be a bit tougher- 4 game west coast road trip postponed. The Oilers are at UBS today though. So they can play in NY but not in Edmonton a few days later? I can't keep up with the rules. I just hope the Isles can get everyone back and stay healthy the rest of the year and make a good run at the playoffs, which should start in about August at the rate we're going.

For several Canadian teams, the current restrictions on building occupancy (50% max) means a big reduction in gate revenues, plus liquor and food sales. The argument / gamble is, can we postpone these games to a later date when (hopefully) the restrictions will be lifted and the teams can get fill up to 100% capacity and no food/liquor restrictions? Frankly, I don't see the restrictions being lifted here until we get enough booster shots into arms (in B.C., we're upwards of 90% vaccinated with two doses and only a smattering of 3rd doses in people under 60...) which will likely be well into February.

Gotcha. Thanks. Hopefully things don't get even more locked down. And so much for the league saying it's about safety and not money. As if anyone believed that...

Anyway. Isles win in OT for the first time this year! Dobson has been playing great lately and continued that with the OT winner. They even came from behind in the third to tie it up. :toot: Now, no hockey for like 10 days. :chairshot:

Unless they do some quick rescheduling, the Isles are off until the 13th. What a year.

Nelson & Palmieri skating again. Good news! On Nelson anyway. Palmieri couldn't find the back of the net with a Sherpa on a yak.
