Palmieri and Zajac (with NJ retaining 50% salary for each!) for the Isles 1st this year, a conditional 3/4 (3rd if the Isles make the Cup Final), and minor leaguers AJ Greer and Mason Jobst.
Good guy Tom Fitzgerald tweeted that he hopes the Devils pick 32nd with that 1st, hoping that Palmieri and Zajac win the Cup. Classy move, if a bit odd when his team isn't officially eliminated.
Rumor is that the Isles were fully in on Hall but opted for this move instead. Palmieri has played both wings in the past, so he may wind up on Barzal/Eberle's left wing to replace Lee. Palmieri is a good 2-way winger, who has shown a knack for big goals in the past so he replaces Lee there but is also better than Lee in the D-zone. Zajac is a great extra center, which is something the Isles have lacked for a while. They've got 4 very good centers in Barzal, Nelson, Pageau and Cizikas, but whenever any of them have missed time the team has shown their lack of center depth. Bailey and Beauvillier were both drafted as Cs but never really showed they could do it in the NHL well. So this is a good move, especially for the money/trade.
Isles still have approximately $3 million in space with Lee's LTIR status. So another move could still be coming. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a depth D-man. Hickey was good in his short stint, but he is injury prone himself, so having him as your 7th is a bit sketchy. Having someone to give Greene a few days off here and there would be great down the stretch.
And cue Miss18.2 asking "Pat Zajac? The Wheel of Fortune guy?" at least once/game for the next 2 weeks.
