Isles were scouting San Jose vs Arizona game last night. For whatever that's worth...

Pens tonight and Monday. Last of their 8 against each other. Isles are 2-2-2. End that shit in the black!

Pens beat the Isles 2-1, with Jarry leaving the game after the 1st period. DeSmith was great for them but didn't get the win as Jarry left with a 2-0 lead.
They showed stats indicating Komarov on the Isles' top line has cut high danger chances against from 0.76 with Lee to 0.2. But he still sucks and is pretty much killing Barzal and Eberle in the O-zone. And he keeps taking dumb penalties. When your 2 best skills are agitating the other team and your PK ability, you aren't very good at all if you're the one in the box at least once/game. Dip shit.
Season series over vs the Pens, unless of course they meet in the playoffs which looks quite possible. Pens take the season 6-2 from their end, 2-4-2 from the Isles' end. Fucking NHL math.

Caps on Thursday.

What a weird game! 30 seconds in Oshie bumped Samsonov behind the Caps' net, shouldering him in the jaw, causing Samsonov to go out for concussion protocol. He'd stayed down for a bit after the hit. But the Caps scored on their first shot about a minute in. Not long afterwards, the Isles scored on their first shot. It's weird enough to see one team score on their first shot of the game, but both has got to be a once/season thing leaguewide, if even that common. I have no idea what Chara's issue was, but he wanted to fight someone with like 20 seconds to go so Martin went with him. Martin's first fight of the year. Neither really landed anything. Johnston had been thrown out with a misconduct at a faceoff with like a minute to go. No clue what he said to the Cap opposite him but the ref was having none of it. Strange situation.

Should be noted- Barzal's 5 points were all at 5 on 5.

Vanecek saved 7 of 9 total. Samsonov replaced him with like 3 minutes to go in the first and gave up a goal after returning, then five more in the game. 6 goals on 24 shots. Varlamov let in 4 on 22. Not exactly a great night for goalies.

Barzal with a hat trick and 2 assists, both on Eberle's 2 goals. Barzal had a crazy end to end rush for his first, a spin-a-rama prayer for the 2nd, and batted a blooping puck in for the third. Great to see him get going again. He looked pissed from the start of the game. I would be too if I had uncle Leo on my line.

Pens won also, so that's a 3-way tie with 50 points although the Caps have the game in hand. Isles really needed a game vs the Pens last week. That could really bite them in the long run.

Philly on Saturday. Caps again Tuesday. Flyers again Thursday. Rangers Friday and Sunday.

Isles with a SO win over the Flyers after blowing a 2-0 third period lead. Beauvillier with both Isles goals. Beautiful pass on the first from Martin, who is in Lee's net front spot on the PP, and said after the game he knows he doesn't fill it like Lee but is working on it. It was a nice no look, behind the back pass.

Johnston and Morin fought for not reason at all, with Morin tagging Johnston on the chin with a good punch that momentarily dropped Johnston who got up and threw a few more. They tied up and went to the box, with Johnston leaving the game after coming out. Probably a concussion. Not long after Morin got out he boarded Pageau. It looked bad enough that the ref immediately blew the whistle while the Isles had the puck. Pageau got up with a cut on his face from the boards and the ref called interference. Terribly botched play and call. That's the PP Beauvillier scored on.

I don't get why the Isles were so reluctant to shoot on Hart, who had the worst save % of any goalie in the NHL going in. 10 shots through 2 periods, while they mostly dominated the play.

Sorokin looked good. The 2 goals were D breakdowns. Sorokin has won his first 6 home games.

Caps again on Monday. Flyers again Wed.

Caps tonight. Johnston is back. Dal Colle is skating but not back yet. Dobson's covid was asymptomatic.

Still boring news on the trade front.

No idea, but lots of Isles fans are hoping it does so they can call Hall-Barzal-Eberle the Chiarelli Tribute line.

Hall and Palmieri are both being held out of games and are both linked to the Isles. I think Palmieri is the fallback if Hall doesn't work out, as is widely reported. I'm really stretching there.

I'm just worried about these rumors that Beauvillier would go the other way in any deal. I think he's still nowhere near his potential and I also still think he belongs on a line with Barzal. The two always find each other for the brief moments they're on together when one doesn't change with their linemates.

Quite different from last week's 8-4 win over the Caps, the Isles take a playoff-like game at 1-0 on a Brock Nelson rebound with like 6:15 to go. Tight checking, great D by both teams, low scoring game that sounds like a snoozefest but was definitely not. Lots of great scoring chances and saves by both goalies. Isles & Caps both have 54 points in 39 games now, with the Caps having a 1 game advantage in ROW. The Pens lost to the Rangers so they've got 50 in 39 for third place, but they have a ton of games left vs Buffalo and NJ. I can only hope that both teams have fire sales and both the guys left behind and the guys sent there in trades are ripping pissed and want to show that they are better than last or 2nd to last...

Isles host the Flyers again Thursday.

Josh Bailey played his 904th game and recorded his 500th point. Of course, it was an assist and was added to the goal after the game was over. He touched the puck between Pulock and Nelson, but Pulock's assist was originally announced. Bailey can never catch a break.

I missed the game but saw highlights. 3-2 SO win over Philly. Sorokin let in a softie but was amazing besides that.

Zajac-Pageau-Palmieri was a line last night, so people are calling it the Dead Line. :rimcrash:

Rangers tonight!

4-1 loss to the Rangers. Boooo! I was looking on my phone and it showed the Isles ahead 1-0 at one point with no player credited with the goal, then down 2-0. I guess they had a goal taken back?

Rangers again Sunday night.

On Twitter they were joking about Palmieri shaving his beard but Lou let him keep his bushy eyebrows :D

I saw a quote that he hadn't bought a razor since college, so Andy Greene Facetimed him to teach him how to shave.

In the pre-game AJ said she'd bet on Palmieri getting the first goal and he did. But the Isles blew a 2-0 lead and needed OT to win it, with Pulock finally getting his first of the year. He looked more relieved to get his first than happy to get an OT winner.

Isles stay tied with the Caps for first with 58 points, Pens keep pace with a win for 56 points. 14 games to go for all 3 teams. Isles (and Caps) magic number to make the playoffs is 16, since the Rangers and Flyers are tied for 5th place with 44 in 41.

The Coburn pickup- it's good to have depth and he only cost a 7th rounder, so it seems like a good move. Not sure he'll play at all, but it's good to have him. Aho didn't look NHL ready and certainly not NHL playoff ready.

Coburn tested negative, so he's on the ice with the Isles for a rare mythological beast- practice! He's on the taxi squad according to CapFriendly though, so no word on if/when he'll play.

This may sound crazy, but the Islanders play a game tonight! At the Bruins for two.

Isles forgot to show up to the game after being off for 3 days. They gave up 22 shots in the first period alone, 45 total. Stir fried dog shit.
They had a few chances of their own and missed the net by like 2 feet.

Back at it again tonight.

Isles started the 2nd game in Boston with some great chances, and either shot over the net or got robbed by this kid Swayman, making his 5th NHL start. The annoying part was the kid looked like his heart rate didn't get over like 50 bpm while doing it. Little bastard! Maybe teams will figure him out, or maybe he's the real deal, but he looks great so far. Bruins take the game 3-0 with an empty netter. Fucking Pastranak scored with 2.4 seconds left in the first period, and then Hall scored less than 50 seconds into the second period for his second with the Bruins, 4th all year. Nice change of scenery, change of worlds for him.

Flyers on Sunday. They'd better fucking win that one.

I don't know. Their magic number has been 16 for like a week. They can't win and the Rangers aren't losing. They really need to beat the Flyers tomorrow. The Isles are very good at home. Not nearly so good on the road, so they need home ice in a round or a few.
