They're 12th in shots allowed/game at 31.8. They're dead last in shots for/game at 27.8, but that's largely because Trotz is preaching that they only shoot if they have a real shot at scoring: Don't put it on net just for the sake of doing so.

Flyers tonight. They'll be pissed after losing to Ottawa.

Came back from a 3-0 third period deficit to win the SO. 27/28 points in 14 games. Fuck yeah.
Beauvillier with 2 goals and Barzal with the other. Eberle and Barzal scored in the SO. Peter Chiarelli, thank you so fucking much!

Penguins on Tuesday. They're the fuckers who beat the Isles last time, just over a week ago.

Isles tie franchise record 15 straight game point streak. 1 OT loss in that span. 29/30 points. And still trail the Caps by 5 fucking points. Sure, they have 4 games in hand, but the Caps play the Rangers tonight, so that's almost 2 points guaranteed.
Isles trailed by 2 with less than 5 minutes to go and my dog was begging to go out. I considered taking her, thinking I didn't want to see the streak end. Then I thought "but with the way they're playing, I won't miss the streak ending, I'll miss 2 to tie it and their OT winner." Can't say I've thought like that about the Isles in a loooooooooooooooong time.

Beauvillier is playing like a man possessed.
Nelson is actually scoring outside the month of October! And holy shit I thought he was going to DIE when Pulock's one-timer hit him in the helmet. Thankfully Nelson saw it coming and started ducking, causing it to glance off the upper part of the helmet, but you can clearly see a piece of the helmet break and shoot up with the puck. Classy of the Pens D and Murray to call the ref over and not even watch for where the puck went. He got a new helmet on the bench and they showed the trainer moving his numbers from the old helmet to the new one.
Barzal had a pretty rough game. Terrible give away on the PP lead to a SH goal for the Pens, which thankfully was overturned for offsides on review. Later he took a lazy penalty and the Pens scored. He was benched for a bit and played much better after that. I look forward to seeing how he plays on Thursday.
Varlamov is- meh. It's like Halak 2.0. He gives up 1 bad goal almost every game. The one off Pelech's skate shouldn't have happened. He seems to have trouble with players behind his net.

Brock Nelson looks like the grumpy next door neighbor in a Disney cartoon about pesky kids who find an ancient dragon sleeping in their basement.

Brock Nelson could also be the villain in the same movie.

Isles blow the 1 goal lead late in the 3rd, but win it in OT. Nelson with his 2nd straight 2 goal game and 2nd straight game with the OT winner. It was his 500th NHL game too. Cizikas hit that the game before. Both played all with the Isles.

So the 16 game unbeaten streak is still going! 19.5% of the season. 31/32 possible points. 3 points behind the Caps with 4 games in hand.

Now they go to the West coast though. Sharts, Dicks and Ding-Dings. (That was immature, even for me)

Ot loss to the Sharks. Considering they were ZERO for SIX on the PP, I think a Bettman point is pretty good. And it keeps the point streak alive at 17. One thing I find cool is that the media* and fans are making a big deal of the point streak, but the players and coaches are taking the approach that it doesn't change anything. They always go out to win every game, and only focus on the next game coming up.
*The Islanders media that is, which is the TV broadcast team, the chipmunk voiced radio guy who reaches like 12 people, and the whopping 2 beat writers who cover them.

Ducks up next.

Points streak ended at 17 games by an angry Ducks team. Isles looked very good in the first and Gibson stonewalled them. Isles looked very meh in the 2nd, and Gibson stonewalled them. Ducks scored on a goalmouth scramble in the 2nd. I went to bed for the 3rd and the Ducks won 3-0. Trotz said the Isles had some passengers so I expect some lineup changes. Ducks apparently dressed a bit of a goon squad, because Trotz said he'd base his lineup on theirs and he went with Martin and Johnston. And then, Mayfield got in a fight instead of either of the "legit" enforcers.
Beauvillier nearly kept his goal streak alive, partially shanking one shot on a wide open net, and then ringing one so hard off the post that it took a good effort by Pulock to keep it in the zone.
Eberle and Lee both had great chances taken away by Gibson. Eberle has no goals and 5 assists on the year (only 9 games played due to injury). Lee hasn't scored in a long ass time, and is 5/5/10 on the year playing in all 22 games.

Kings tomorrow before American Turkey Day. Hoping they go into the break with a win, not a losing streak. No matter what, getting 32/34 points is frigging huge and will go a long way in the playoff race. Still 3 behind the Caps with 3 in hand. 3 ahead of the Canes, with 2 in hand on them.

West coast trip did not end well. 1 out of 6 possible points. 2 goals scored. Oof. It's about time Eberle gets scoring.

Isles top the Red Wings 4-1. Eberle finally gets his first (and second) goals of the season. He was out for a while, but I think I heard this was his 15th game. Long time to go without a goal, especially after how good he was in the series vs Pittsburgh.
Beauvillier with a poor man's version of Barzal's breakaway move, but on a perfectly timed play, as he did it coming out of the penalty box.
Lee with his 2nd in 2 games. There's another guy happy to see Nov end.

Barzal drew 2 interference penalties within 30 seconds of play. Don't know that I've ever seen that.

Habs tonight.

Some of the stats guys were posting stuff--too lazy to look for it again but Brock Nelson has somehow emerged from being a pretty "meh" 2nd/3rd line guy to a legit scoring line threat.

I think it's partially because he lulls people to sleep with his super stoned appearance. Guy looks like he smokes weed nonstop.
Trotz has gotten him to wait for a real scoring chance, where before he seemed content with the peewee thought process of "you've got a good shot, just shoot whenever possible and hope it goes in".

I missed the game vs the Habs. Heard the Isles were very meh and the Habs were doing everything they could to break their losing streak. I still don't understand why the Isles are playing Johnny "old balls" Boychuk in both back-to-back games while Noah Dobson eats hot dogs in the press box. Boychuk is slowing down big time. He needs some rest. I know he wants to play. Everyone does. But they need to sit him down and explain that they want him healthy for the playoffs, so they're going to sit him in games like this. It just has to happen.

Nelson didn't lull Price to sleep last night. Look at those chops! https://twitter.com/InGoalMedia/status/ ... 11296?s=20

3-1 loss to the Stars. Barzal with several dumb/lazy penalties. Stars scored on the PPs. One off Boychuk's leg. Almost funny- he immediately pointed to the Star in front of the net to say he'd kicked it in. The Star player never touched it, and several video angles all show it cleanly go off Boychuk and right in. Nice try Johnny.
At least Barzal scored the Isles goal, but it was way too little, too late.

Tampa next.

Price has got more than a little Billy Smith in him. I still remember repeatedly punching an Avs player with his blocker (was it Kerfoot?) after a collision.

I thought Price was a bit of a dick on that play. Nelson wasn't in the crease, didn't collide with Price at all. But maybe he's done something in the past.

Tampa tonight. I'll miss the game. :chairshot:

Well...Price IS kind of a dick, hence the Smith comparison.

I mean, I can't criticize too harshly, I was, and still am, a huge fan of St. Patrick, and that dude was nuts.

Speaking of Smith, the story Jamie McLennan tells about the time that he was his goalie coach and directed him to take out the mascot is still one of my favorites.

That story is hysterical. I especially love how McLennan let in like 5 goals on 8 shots and thought Smith was going to kill him, but Smith was grinning ear to ear because he ran over the eagle. "That's how you do it kid! That's how you earn respect!" Yep. Everyone respects a goalie with a 0.375 save %.

Smart challenge kept it 3-1 for the Isles, as the Bolts were clearly offside. Ross Johnston with an absolute snipe to open scoring. He's not just a goon. Bailey with a shorty. Nelson with 2 and Lee with 1. Solid game. Picked up 2 points on the runaway Caps. Still SEVEN points behind them with 3 games in hand.
Panthers on Thursday.
