Rumors from Art Staple:
Tavares is going to let them know mid-June if he will re-sign with the Isles. Seems odd, since the aren't allowed to make him an offer before that. I've heard 8 years at $9.5 or $10 million per year. Sounds right. No discounts. He doesn't need to give one. He'd get 7 @ $10 if he hit the market. Staple really thinks Snow will trade JT if he doesn't re-sign. I think he will though.

Another rumor they'll make a big trade for a 2nd line center this off-season, likely sending a d-man in return. Pulock? I hope not. The expansion draft could prove very costly for the Isles. Pulock should have been with the Isles after his foot healed. Barzal should have been with them too, and could be the 2nd line center they're looking for. He never had a chance with Capuano. I'd concentrate more on getting a 1st line scoring winger to compliment JT. Sure Lee puts up goals, but he's doing it more on rebounds. If they got a sniper for RW, having Lee, JT & someone who could really score could be a lethal top line. Bailey is an okay playmaker, but doesn't belong on that top line. He rarely shoots. Lee could score a lot more putting in rebounds from someone with a shoot-first mentality.

Vegas entropy. Isles just re-signed Greiss, so he's likely the goalie they'll protect. Would Vegas take Halak? He's got 1 year left, and McPhee is the one who brought him to Washington years ago (and Halak was traded to the Isles by McPhee's successor in Washington). Having 1 year left could make him intriguing to McPhee. He could be let go if he stinks, traded at the deadline as a rental if he's doing pretty well, or extended if he's doing really well. Pulock or De Haan could be left unprotected. Nelson could be unprotected, although hitting 20 goals makes it less likely.

Isles are very likely to protect:
F- JT, Ladd (have to on both of them), Lee.
D- Boychuk (have to), Leddy, Hamonic, Pulock. They pretty much have to protect 4 D. Makes this a real shit show. Unless they pull off a trade prior to the expansion draft, but that seems unlikely.
Goalie- Greiss

If the Isles are going to build a new barn in Belmont, they need their horse. (See what I did there?)

Sign JT you numbskulls.

That can't be true, can it? I can't see even the Islanders doing something that stupid. Could they?

They could, couldn't they? If any team was going to do something that unorthodox and stupid, it would be them. :fffffuck:

Detroit has a 2nd line center for you! You'll like him a lot, I'm sure. :viking:

Indeed. Fucking Snow. That was such a big mistake.

More talk about moving near Belmont Park... Others still saying a return to the Coliseum. No thanks.

How about more talk of who they'll draft, sign, protect vs expose to Vegas... Shit that will happen within the next 3 years.

Seidenberg re-signed for 1 year, $1.25 million. Fine, unless it blocks Pulock again. Seidenberg was very good early in the year, but fell off toward the end. If he's used as a 7-8, and fill in now & then, he can handle it. If he's supposed to be in every night, Snow should be fired.

Isles have terminated their affiliation with the ECHL Missouri Mavericks, and now have the Worcester Railers as their ECHL affiliate. Makes moving players between the ECHL & AHL easier and quicker. And I knew Snow would go for some further New England connection. He's got an obsession with his home area.

Another reason to re-sign Seidenberg: The Isles will almost certainly lose a defenceman in the expansion draft.

They have to protect Boychuk, then have two spots remaining for Leddy, Hamonic, Hickey, De Haan, Pulock.

I think they may go with protecting 8 skaters instead. Forwards with NMCs- Tavares & Ladd. Then protect Lee & maybe Nelson. Then on D- Boychuk (must), Leddy, Hamonic & Pulock. If Pulock is lost to expansion, Isles fans will seriously storm Snow's office.

I've given up trying to figure out what Snow will do. I keep hoping he has a handshake deal with McPhee on who he won't take, since Snow brought him back into visibility. But I seriously doubt that. We need a thread for the expansion draft. I'm bored of this "playoff" bullshit.

Tavares with hand surgery a week after the season ended. Rumo(u)r of 8 year, $80 million contract offer.
http://www.lighthousehockey.com/2017/5/ ... per-report

He took nasty slashes to the hand in the first 4-5 games of the season. Maybe that was it.

I'm certainly on board for the 8 years, but I'd like them to lower the $/year a little, so they can afford a legit 1st line scoring winger for him. If not, Lee on his left to tip in/rebound shots, and Ho-Sang on his right to feed him the puck isn't the worst idea.

Nelson as 2nd line center, Barzal as 3rd, Cizikas as 4th... Sounds pretty good. Although, none are as good on faceoffs as I'd like to see. They need to hire an off-season faceoff specialist to train these guys.

Isles sign goalie prospect Linus Soderstrom to an ELC after he won the Swedish League championship. Says he'll play another year in Sweden and then come over.

This comes hot on the heels of another Isles prospect playing overseas, Ilya Sorokin in the KHL, getting a raise for next year. Sorokin's KHL contract ends after the 17-18 season ends. Sorokin is supposed to be better than Soderstrom, but Soderstrom is no slouch. Not sure if Snow fears Sorokin will stay in the KHL. When Sorokin was here for prospect camp last year he said he had a blast and personally thanked everyone in the camp, from players to coaches and trainers. Sounds like a good dude.

In much better news than the stupidity above this, Barzal's Seattle Thunderbirds won the WHL championship. He had points in 19 straight playoff games, but was held pointless in the championship game. He won MVP. He should be the Isles 2nd center next year, so he'll probably start as a 4th line winger or in Bridgeport.

Awesome! That's Steve Konowalchuk's team and their first-ever WHL championship I believe. The year he took over I'm pretty sure they were dead last. Amazing turnaround. Memorial Cup is next.

Rumors abound that Weight is going to replace the Isles assistant coaches with Kelly Buchberger & Luke Richardson- two of his 90s Oilers team mates. I'm all for old friends reuniting to work together, since they probably share a vision. But it just feels way too 25 years ago Rangers.... Lots of former Oilers. Kinda... dirty.

2/3. Weight in 99/00 & 00/01. Buchberger for the 4 seasons before that. Can't find a list of the Alternate Captains, so maybe Richardson wore an A? His Wikipedia page doesn't mention it, but does mention he was Captain of the Blue Jackets, so he probably wore an A elsewhere in previous years. You don't just get a C... Good call on that though.
They just need to bring back Ryan Smythe to make it look really good.
