The Isles should play Lotto after the luck they had in that game. 3-2 win, with all 3 of their goals coming off Canuck D-men deflections. Yeesh. They'll take it, but that was ridiculous luck. What did they have, 9 shots through 2 periods? WTF is that?

Thomas Hickey with 1G & 1A. He should have punched the closest Canuck after he scored for the GHHT.
Hamonic with a goal, raising his trade value, errrr, never mind. But they're going to Winnipeg next, oh yeah. Date...
Lee also with a goal.
Greiss with 32498 saves. True story.

Jets up next on Thursday.

5-1 so far on the road trip. Rangers on Sunday.

4-3 OT win vs the Jets last night. Isles played like shit most of the game. Went up 2-1 and blew the lead within 2 minutes. Went down 3-2 with 2:08 to go in the game, and suddenly started playing. Tied it with like 38 seconds to go on a great Anders Lee screen/deflection. In OT Okposo made a great play to block a shot and head up 2-1 with Nielsen. They crossed once over the line, Nielsen's shot was deflected, I think off Ehlers' stick, right into Ehler's face. Okposo put the "rebound" in. Isles barely celebrated, saw Ehler on the ground and motioned to the Jets bench for the trainer. yes I'm a homer, but that was classy of them. Ehler had thrown his gloves off before Okposo' shot even went in. Poor bastard.

Shane Prince got his first as an Isle off a great feed from Okposo in the 3rd. Took a really nasty slash from Big Buff on the shot. He looked to be in a lot of pain afterward. Clutterbuck slashed Burmistrov badly a few minutes later. Not sure if it was payback for the Prince slash, or Clutterbuck is just a dick. Matt Martin dove to block a shot with like 15 seconds in regulation, then the Jet player skated into Martin's prone body, skate hitting him in the shoulder/bicept area. He left the game in a lot of pain. No blood though, so I think it will be minor. Probably won't keep him out vs the Rangers Sunday. Rough 3rd/OT for both teams.

Isles at Rangers today. They sit 5 points behind the Rangers, but with 3 games in hand.

Lundqvist & Marc Staal out for the Rangers. De Haan out for the Isles, and for some reason I will never understand, Ryan Pulock is a healthy scratch, with Strait & Zidlicky player. WHYYYYY? We know what they bring: Shittiness and Age. Arg.

Raanta in for the Rangers, Halak for the Isles.

Great goalie battle between Halak & Raanta. .846 & .839 for the game respectively. Isles blew a 3-0 lead, taking in the first 4:45 of the game! Rangers tied it at 3, then at 4. Isles then got the GWG from Clusterfuck with 1:28 to go, and then an empty netter from Nielsen. Boychuk had 2, Okposo & Nelson had the others. Isles are now 3 points behind with 3 games in hand. Penguins kept pace, and are 3 behind the Isles with 2 more games played. Penguins at Isles Tuesday. Isles at Leafs Wednesday, and at Boston Saturday.

Isles 7 game road trip is over, with them going 6-1  The loss was to Edmonton of all teams.

I saw the last 3 minutes of the Isles beating the Penguins 2-1. Greiss made some amazing saves, and Hamonic made a great old school skate save. But of course I wondered, why the fuck is Greiss in when it's 2-1, and I read all over that Halak was starting? He's hurt. No idea what happened, other than hearing the announcers say he left in a lot of obvious pain. Well fuck. Apparently he was great for 55 minutes, then left. Bugger. When a win is really a loss...

Tavares & Lee with the goals. Leddy & Nielsen with 2 assists each.

Big 2 points. Hope Halak is okay.

Halak rumored to be out 6 weeks. I heard DiPietro's radio show and he thought it looked like a groin pull. Greiss & Berube for at least 6 weeks! This is why they signed the best backup on the market and then put in the waiver claim on Berube.

Leafs tonight. I hadn't even realized they play tonight.

Better not miss home ice by a point after that.

I can't even get mad at Strome for taking that late penalty, as Nielsen also hooked the Leaf (I forget who it was), and the Isles were initially lucky Strome was called and not Nielsen, since Nielsen is one of their best PK guys. Turned out to not matter in the end since the Leafs scored on the PP. OT & SO were shit shows for the Isles. They looked slow the whole game. I guess it was a trap game for them. Usually they have the post-Ranger game letdown, but they played the Pens really well, and then stunk vs the Leafs. At least Strome finally scored again.

Last year they missed home ice by a point, and I still think of that awful game vs Philly when they allowed a goal from the point with 5 seconds left to lose in regulation. :chairshot: So yeah, hopefully they make better use of their games in hand than this 1 point effort.

Oddly, the SO loss didn't change their chances of making the playoffs, or even their chances of taking over 2nd place from the Rangers, at least according to Sportsclubstats.com. Still at 52% to take over 2nd.

Halak's injury time increased to 6-8 weeks. Fuck a goat.

They are, and the team has given him more goal support this year than they have Halak, but I don't know if he can sustain those numbers. He's already played more games this year than in any year of his NHL career. Who knows, maybe he'll suddenly show he should be a starter. Greiss is 2 years older than Dubnyk was last year, but he was certainly a revelation last year. Why couldn't Greiss be? (Answer- because Islanders).

Islanders vs Panthers tonight.
Islanders at Penguins tomorrow. Pens are 2 points behind the Isles, with 2 more games played, but the Isles have to start winning those games in hand. They are 0-1-1 in their last 2 games.

Calvin de Haan is back, which pushes Strait out of the lineup. Thank the hockey gods! Grabovski was activated from IR, but won't play tonight. Maybe tomorrow? I assume we'll see Berube in 1 of these back-to-back games. Maybe Greiss plays vs his former team tomorrow and Berube goes tonight.

Rumor is they are talking extensions with Franz Nielsen, but not Okposo. They can't even talk to his agent?

Ghost game- Isles were invisible for 40 minutes, going into the 3rd down 2-0. Then they jumped out at the Panthers, yelled "Boo, motherfuckerrrrrrs!" and scored 3 goals in 5:31 to win it in regulation. Greiss was great, allowing 2 goals on 21 shots. He had no chance on the 2 goals. 11 shots through 2 periods on Luongo, and then 17 in the third.

1 point behind the Rangers with 2 games in hand. 4 ahead of the Penguins, with 1 game in hand. According to Sportsclubstats, they now have a 58% chance of taking over 2nd place from the Rangers. :-D That made my night.

Penguins tomorrow.

2-1 SO loss to the Penguins. Berube was nothing short of amazing, making 33 saves through OT, stopping Crosby & Kessel in the SO, allowing only a regulation deflection goal to Kunitz and a really nice SO goal to Leturd. Okposo with the Isles lone goal in regulation. Nobody scored for them in the SO, with Nielsen, Okposo & Tavares all getting stopped easily. Tavares' wounded snail pace SO attempts need to fucking stop. Goalies were thrown off by it when he first did it, but now they know to just wait until he's in close & then cover the low net, since he's in too close to roof it. If he's going to go in this slowly, he needs to shoot high now & then to keep goalies guessing more. Or maybe Capuano could go with someone else. I'd use Lee, Strome, Bailey, Clutterbuck & even Leddy before Tavares in the SO.
Capuano changed the lines up mid-game vs the Panthers the night before & it worked brilliantly. Last night he put the old lines back together & kept them that way for the whole game. Only changes were putting Grabovski, Bernier & Strait in for Nelson, Prince and Pulock respectively. A mid-game change might have helped spark something. Oh well.

Berube may have a very small sample size, but he's looking like a very good NHL goalie. And he comes pretty close to out-toothing Fleury, which is something very few humans can say.

Isles at the sexual Predators tonight. 2 points behind the Rangers with 2 games in hand. Rangers at Kings tonight after gutting one out vs the Ducks.
Most likely Greiss in net tonight, although I wouldn't mind Berube at all.

I'll be really happy when the Isles figure out that hockey games are 60 fucking minutes. Pathetic effort.

Pulock got his first NHL goal on a nice screen by Tavares. Pulock put a wrister up high.
Brock Nelson, back after being a healthy scratch, breaking his 202 consecutive game streak, scored a pretty, but weak goal, dancing lazily around 2 Pred D-men.

No urgency with this team until the last 5 minutes. It's like the Scott Gordon era again. Why play 60 when you can at least "make it interesting" in the last 5-10?

Cizikas & Grabovski both missed the game with injuries. Grabovski was sent back to NY. That's not good.

They play someone on Saturday. I'll tune in for the 3rd period, so I can be deluded that they played hard all game.

Isles at Stars tonight. Grabovski is in NY being evaluated for some injury or another. Cizikas is supposedly playing tonight. Yay!
Seguin out with a cut achilles tendon. Fucking ouch!

Conventional wisdom would say that a team missing their starting goalie would go through a dry spell (see Habs). But Greiss is playing very well, as has Berube in his very limited time. The Isles offense is supposedly very good but has looked like stir-fried dog shit lately. 3-0 loss to the Stars, with one being an empty netter. 1 point behind the Penguins now, with 1 game in hand. Not a good position to be in with the Flyers nipping at their heels now. That's who they play Monday, so they'd better figure out how to score again.
