Strome going to play with Tavares this year? Want to move him up my draft ranking tonight as I think this is the case.

I wasn't, but very interesting. What a tool. Him- not her. And she was 26, not a teen, for whatever that's worth. :-)

EDIT- and this is a different Yormark. Brett & Michael. Mr. Journalist... :|

Top line all pre-season has been Lee-Tavares-Strome. But be aware Capuano changes lines all the time to mix things up.

Also have to decide in my keeper league between Sequin and Tavaras...ughhh that is painful, but leaning Tavares at the moment.

Can't help you man. I'd say they're both going to be damn good again.

Isles last pre-season game is tonight vs the Caps.

Halak has been out a LOT during the pre-season with a UBI. He made it halfway through Thursday's practice before leaving again, and hasn't been on the ice since. Rumor is he'll travel with the team to Chicago for the season opener no matter what, but it's looking more likely that Games 1 & 2 (back-to-backs vs Chicago) will be Greiss and Stephon Williams. The Isles thought enough of Williams to waive Kevin Poulin much earlier than him, and lost Poulin to the Bolts. Williams came into camp as #4 on the depth chart and may start the home opener. If I was Halak, I'd check that kid's locker for a voodoo doll.

Barzal is still in camp. 9 game tryout?
Petrov is said to be very likely to make the team. They'll have too many forwards, but lots of people are saying Petrov may leave for Europe if he's sent to Bridgeport. He speaks VERY little English. Kulemin has been translating for him, and says he & Grabovski have been teaching Kiril the essentials: "Yes, no, thanks, and a word you guys can't print". There are no other Eastern Euros in Bridgeport, so I don't know how he'd do there. Can't really see a minor league team hiring a translator.

Too many forwards though.
Lee-Tavares-Strome
Bailey-Nielsen-Okposo
Kulemin-Grabovski-Petrov
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
Extras: Barzal, Bernier, Leblanc (he's hurt, not sure why he's still on the roster), and Nelson. Nelson is not going to be a healthy scratch all year. It's a good problem to have, but they've just got too many forwards. I guess Leblanc goes to Bridgeport & Barzal back to juniors, which leaves them with 2 extra forwards, which isn't bad. But with Halak's naggnig day to day UBI, they may carry 3 goalies, which would only allow them 1 extra forward. Is someone bound for a fake IR stint? Bernier coming down with a case of the Old Farts? Nelson sidelined by a urinary tract infection- for pissing Snow off during the off-season? Matt Martin on the IR for being the worst player on the team? It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Probably like a fart through wool pants.

Rumor is they'll carry 7 D:
Leddy-Boychuk
de Haan-Hamonic
Hickey-Zidlicky (although Hickey is out for the next 3 weeks). That raises the question: Insert Brian Strait, one of the worst D-men in the league, or have Ryan Pulock play on the left when he's used to the right? And mix the lines up, or put Pulock on with Zidlicky, who is like a double-aged version of himself? Probably not a good idea.

Goal
Halak (day to day with UBI)
Greiss
Williams

I don't believe you can demote, waive, trade, or buy out injured players.

Having too many quality forwards is a good problem to have, but it is a problem.

Even if he was AHL-bound anyway? It's not like anyone predicted Leblanc to make the team.

I just noticed Greiss is wearing #1. A backup wearing #1 is just weird to me.

Yup. I remember either last season or the one before that the Avs called up career AHLer David van der Gulik, who promptly got concussed in his first game. Had to stay on IR in Colorado a good long time. Doesn't really make a difference since an injured player doesn't occupy an actual roster spot and if need be a team can LTIR him to exceed the cap.

Okay. And if he was in the AHL he'd count toward the 50 contracts, so it doesn't really make a difference to anything. Thanks. It's just really weird seeing his name there this late.

Isles obviously wanted to just get out of the pre-season without any regulars getting hurt. Played the Caps without 5 of their regular D. Okay, Hickey is hurt, so without 4 of their regular D. No Tavares either. The kids on D looked totally overmatched vs the Caps. Mayfield, who played games 6 & 7 last spring, looked okay. Pulock looked a little shaky, but he was paired with Zidlicky, who kept giving the puck away. Greiss certainly didn't look impressive. I hope Halak is okay by Friday. 2-6 in the pre-season. I really hope the old addage of the pre-season going the opposite way of the regular season is true.

Petrov sent to Bridgeport. Barzal sent to Seattle (Juniors). Petrov will very likely be the first forward called up in case of injury. Or he may be called up when halak is no longer day-to-day and they can send Williams back to Bridgeport. He gives them good flexibility, but I hope he's out to prove he belongs and doesn't sulk. The language thing may be a problem in Bridgeport.

Eric Boulton is still with the team, but there is no word if his PTO has been parlayed into a 1 year deal or something. If so, hopefully it's a 2 way deal or they just IR him like last year. I'd rather see a kid get a chance than him get playing time, no matter who they're playing.

Isles claim Jean-Francois Berube off waivers from the Kings. According to some things I'm reading he has some potential as a decent backup. And you absolutely need to have one when Jaro Halak is your starter.

I saw Berube play back when he was in junior. Nice to see him work his way up.

Yeah, I've heard he's really good. Kind of sucks because them signing him basically says Halak isn't healthy, or they're going with a 3 headed goalie monster. Because that always works well... But yeah, if Halak is the starter, they might as well carry 3. Greiss hasn't exactly looked stellar in the pre-season, even if he had a bunch of kids playing in front of him. I know that's no real test, but whatever test it was- he failed. Hoping Berube is better than Greiss.

Thomas Hickey seen wearing a cast on his left hand/wrist.

Halak rumored to be out tonight, with Greiss getting the home opener and Berube getting the 2nd of the Chicago back-to-back.

1st game in Hipsterlyn. Pre-game ceremonies include a tribute to Al Arbour.

Visnovsky signed with Slovan of the KHL. Concussions weren't the real concern from NHL teams, but his back problems that kept him out for a while last year. Best of luck to one of the more entertaining guys to play hockey.

That should go down as one of Snow's biggest coups. Took a malcontent who publicly refused to report, forced his hand, and turned him into a loyal soldier and core contributor.

As he did with Nabokov. Then he cut both loose when they were no longer able to be contributors. He really has done a good job overall.
