Only game in the league tonight vs a depleted Carolina team, and they'll do the same thing tomorrow for the last home opener.

This year is a lot of firsts & lasts for the Isles. First year in a long time they are considered at good odds to win anything besides the draft lottery. Last season at the Coliseum. First time in like 20 years fans have been truly excited for the season. Last year of paying Yashin's buyout. First in a long time they've had enough depth to send down NHL caliber players. Last year of being able to tailgate games outside the arena (Brooklyn does not have a 12 acre parking lot like the Coliseum does). There will be a shitload of these coming up throughout the year. We didn't know it, but the 100% Wang era ended last year. Sale press conference set for Wednesday the 15th. It's all approved & finalized. :D

Injured Isles: Grabner (4-6 weeks hernia surgery), de Haan (lower body), Visnovsky (upper body), Carkner (footspeed?). Hoping Visnovsky is not a concussion, but they'll never say.

Here's to a good season! :viking:

Maybe we should make an icon like this for Ginger Ale for Chris!

I'm getting a good feeling about this game tonight for the Isles. Hopefully it's right! Enjoy the game!

Almost the same old Isles. :? Allowing 3 third period goals to a shitty team. I am obviously a homer here, but I was never convinced by the replay that the Canes 1st goal should have been upheld. It looked like it was partially on the line to me. The 2nd goal was bad on Halak's part and the third was as well. Strait is a moron to have thrown a hit like that on a guy who'd dumped the puck past him. How do you do that and think you won't be called? He looked shitty 2 other times. One of those other d-men better heal, and fast.

Hell of a game by most of the team though. Nelson is a far better player than he gets credit for.

Now- the big controversy: Do they start Halak tonight in back-to-back games, or have Chad Johnson (who people are calling Tres-cero  ) in their home opener? Capuano said after the game last night that he still doesn't know who will start, err, staht. They've said they'll alternate goalies in back-to-back situations. So they are going with their backup to start the home opener? Sounds odd, but then, they brought him in because they have confidence in his ability to stop pucks. I just think fans are going to be annoyed, and he'll be blamed if they lose. Hopefully they can avoid that.

Before the 1st game they had some clips of players talking about playing at the Coliseum. McDonald was saying that for the playoff games vs Pittsburgh they could hear the fans chanting in the locker room- over an hour before the game. There is no soundproofing in the place at all, so they could hear people in the parking lot! He said it was incredible and got them extra excited for the game.

Home Opener day! :D

Yeah, they had some cool stories. Leddy was interviewed last night and said he couldn't believe waking up in the hotel he's living in (across parking lot from the Coliseum) and seeing fans tailgating- at 10 AM. He said he just kind of watched them for a while, really impressed with the level of fan dedication. Pretty cool way to be welcomed to the first home game. Isles fans are more excited for this season than they have been in 20+ years. The team has delivered in the first 2 games, and just need to do it for 80-108 more. And no, I don't really expect them to be in the Cup finals, but I do expect at least winning 1 round. Finally.

And I just want to point out that Brock Nelson leads the NHL with 6 points after 2 games. 3 & 3. :D
And Josh Bailey had a beauty of a goal, thanks to a brilliant pass by Nielsen. Bailey is on the fans' shit list, and it will be good for him to get off to a good start to get fans to stfu.
