Almost the same old Isles.
Allowing 3 third period goals to a shitty team. I am obviously a homer here, but I was never convinced by the replay that the Canes 1st goal should have been upheld. It looked like it was partially on the line to me. The 2nd goal was bad on Halak's part and the third was as well. Strait is a moron to have thrown a hit like that on a guy who'd dumped the puck past him. How do you do that and think you won't be called? He looked shitty 2 other times. One of those other d-men better heal, and fast.
Hell of a game by most of the team though. Nelson is a far better player than he gets credit for.
Now- the big controversy: Do they start Halak tonight in back-to-back games, or have Chad Johnson (who people are calling Tres-cero
) in their home opener? Capuano said after the game last night that he still doesn't know who will start, err, staht. They've said they'll alternate goalies in back-to-back situations. So they are going with their backup to start the home opener? Sounds odd, but then, they brought him in because they have confidence in his ability to stop pucks. I just think fans are going to be annoyed, and he'll be blamed if they lose. Hopefully they can avoid that.
Before the 1st game they had some clips of players talking about playing at the Coliseum. McDonald was saying that for the playoff games vs Pittsburgh they could hear the fans chanting in the locker room- over an hour before the game. There is no soundproofing in the place at all, so they could hear people in the parking lot! He said it was incredible and got them extra excited for the game.
Home Opener day!
