In opposition to Ratner's plan, the Dolans & MSG are also bidding to take over the Coliseum. Their main plan is to move their AHL affiliate, the Whalepack, to the Coliseum! They have a press release out, saying they plan to bring their brands (Rangers, Knicks, Liberty, Whalepack) into the heart of LI. In other words, the Islanders are vacating their one fan base stronghold, so we're going to take over the building & make all the youngsters our fans!
Could see Rangers pre-season games there, etc... Just a way of taking over the turf & isolating the Isles that much more. Very smart business move, but kind of evil in a way. Which usually goes hand-in-hand with smart business.

Down to MSG vs Barclays to renovate the Coliseum. The ironic part is that it's Ed Mangano, the Nassau County politician who fought so hard to keep the Isles there, who is potentially going to choose the MSG group, and potentially wipe out the Isles fan base there. Very interesting turn of events. Well, to me.

Bid winner for renovating Coliseum was supposed to have been yesterday, but was postponed until today due to a Nassau County police officer being killed in the line of duty. And we're all reminded how unimportant sports really are.

In other semi-Brooklyn news, Matt Martin is in promos for the MTV VMAs: http://instagram.com/p/c7I0FInZgP/#
My biggest question is, how does MTV have VMAs when they don't show MVs?

Ratner (aka Barclays) win the bid to renovate the Coliseum. Awesome. Keeps the Rangers from putting the Wolfpack on LI, and keeps the possibility for the Isles to play a few home games there after renovations are complete. Personally I don't think that last part is a great idea, but hey, LIers who are upset about their team leaving may find this some small consolation. Some have speculated that if the Barclays sight lines are as bad as thought, the Isles may actually move back into the Coliseum when it's ready. Whichever happens, I'm fine with.

Ratner supposedly won because his plan brings way more $ back to the County than the Dolan's plan does. Nice. Anything to piss off the Rangers, who were mainly looking at it as a way to step into the Isles fan base and/or have a backup at least for negotiating a lease renewal for the Rangers. Glad to see the Dolans hear the word No for once.

Isles first day of pre-season are at Barclays next week, but not open to the public. Apparently it's in prep for the pre-season game vs the Devils.

Dee Karl reports she was told there are "big changes" coming very soon to the Isles roster. She's a twit, so I take that with a Dead Sea worth of salt.

New story is the Barclays Center WILL be renovated before the Isles move in. There will be 15,000 full view seats.

Isles business side being taken over by Barclays folks is already obvious. Their site is using the same font as the Nets. Fan fear is the Isles will change colors to black & white like the Nets.

Ratner's plan to renovate Coliseum approved 19-0 by board. It only involves fixing the building & has nothing to do with the crumbling 20 acre parking lot around it. Certainly isn't the Isengaard Lighthouse Wang had planned. Ratner still says they'll have the Isles play 6 games/year at the Coliseum after it's done. But they need approval from the Rangers & league to do it.

Isles will say "Hellooooooooooooo Broooklyn!"....... in the 2015-16 season. Apparently they toyed with leaving the Coliseum a year early, but have decided against it. I'm assuming money was the major deciding factor. Maybe this year's shit show had something to do with it. Either way, they stay in the dump another year, before moving to the horse shoe with obstructed seats. Maybe the Barclays folks will use the extra year to renovate for better seating. Yeah, I don't think so either.

If the Isles are leaving why are they renovating? Are there enough clients? Wouldn't it make more sense to demolish and rebuild at this point?

All demo & rebuild plans have been shot down all along. That's why they're moving. The Coliseum hosts tons of concerts and other arena type events. It's probably worth fixing up.

This is all old news to me. It's all Wang's fault too. When the Barclays center was being built they contacted him to see if they should include an NHL team in the design (ie, Isles). He told them there was a 0% chance of them moving to Brooklyn, so they designed it totally around the smaller basketball court size. Good going Wang. You rock.
I still think the Barclays designers should have just included a rink in the plan, but oh well. It's still a million times better than the Coliseum. The obstructed view seats are discounted greatly and if a scoreboard being off center will drive people crazy, they'd better not go to Fenway Park, where the right field seats face first base instead of the plate. Anyone ever hear about that? I hadn't until I sat in one and wondered wtf was going on. For the Red Sox, that's history & charm. For the Isles situation is a joke... Too predictable.

So much for the "iron-clad" lease everyone has been talking about keeping the Isles in Barclays for 25 years: http://islanderspointblank.com/islander ... ive-years/

Barclays has the right to terminate after 5 years, with the Isles agreeing to it. Ratner (Barclays) is the one who won the job to renovate the Coliseum. He's seen how much the fans want the team back in the Coliseum, even if the local politicians don't. Rumor now is obviously that the plan is to have them play in Brooklyn (reaching their fan base further into Ranger territory) while the Coliseum is renovated, and then they move back when it's all done up nicely.

? You don't like the idea of them playing in Brooklyn? It's the off center scoreboard, isn't it?
