http://nhl.fanhouse.com/2009/02/22/paul ... easurable/Very compelling argument for former Prime Minister Paul Martin's contributions on the blueline this year. Since going down to injury, the Devils' GAA has shot up, their record has fallen, as the team seems unable to replace his 25 minutes a game. Martin hasn't ever gotten much press, and Jersey's D is generously classified as "no name" and "workmanlike", but perhaps we have a defensive star that we're overlooking. It's often been said that since Rafalski left, this team's D core has lacked a top tier blueliner, and the argument goes further back to include Niedermeyer's post-lockout departure, Stevens' 2003-04 retirement and inexplicably Ken Danyeko's post-2003 Stanely Cup retirement as well (even though he was a #6/#7 by that time). Lost in all this has been Paul Martin's development.
Good news for Team USA in 2010, that's for sure.
