Devs sign top prospect F Jesper Boqvist to an ELC. He's supposed to be a real good one. Playing with Hischier or Hughes won't hurt.

They've got potentially interesting top three lines:

Hall-Hischier-Palmieri
Bratt-Hughes-Boqvist
Wood-Zajac-Coleman
(Zacha, Anderson in the mix)

Devils strike again, this time adding LW Nikita Gusev from the Golden Knights for a pair of picks. A superstar in Russia, he should be a solid 2nd liner here and could play with 1st overall pick Hughes.

They've got an impressive forward corps:

Hall-Hischier-Palmieri
Gusev-Hughes-Bratt
Coleman-Zajac-Simmonds
Wood-Zacha-Boqvist

Anderson, Hayden, Rooney, Bastian also in the mix.

That should be a very good lineup, and fun to watch. Gusev could be another Panarin, or another Dadonov, or...he could be another Brunnstrom. It'll be interesting to find out.

Potentially messy situation with RFA C Pavel Zacha. Unconfirmed reports has him signing in the KHL. Not even GM Ray Shero knows if that's the case. Basically said if he leaves, they hold his rights and the NHL is a long road back.

The 22 year-old centre wasn't exactly lighting things up based on his draft pedigree, but he was rounding into a solid all-around player.

No big loss. Not even sure why they were wasting time with him--when it was clear he was a bust they should've considered moving him. He's nothing more than a mediocre 3rd liner at best.

Never mind, Devils keep their mediocre third line centre for three years, $6.75-million.

Waste of time, but whatever.

Whoops, they were actually bad this whole time, and now their MVP is gone.

I mean, they still have a bunch of young talent, so they could still turn it around in a year or so, but now they need a scorer and they need a goalie with Schneider done. It wasn't supposed to go down this way.

Next up in the firesale: Vatanen, Simmonds, Subban, Greene, Wood

The fire sale begins. Both Greene and Coleman get sent away to the Isles and Bolts, respectively. Greene nabs a 2021 2nd rounder and David Quenneville, who looks like he'll be a career minor-leaguer. Coleman brings in an impressive haul, prospect Nolan Foote (the forward, the defensive Foote, Callan, is still with Tampa) and the 2020 first rounder that Tampa got from Vancouver in the J.T. Miller deal.

One guy who will NOT be going is Travis Zajac. Reportedly asked to waive his NTC earlier in the season, he refused, and wishes to be part of the rebuild.

Vatanen's probably on his way out, not sure about the rest.

That's a hell of a return for an almost 30 dude I've never heard of in Coleman. Footer's kid was good at the WJCs and a first rounder?

These are the types of moves that win cups though (for Tampa).

Yep, that's a pretty steep price to pay, but Coleman was definitely in demand (Renaud Lavoie at TVA was so confident he was headed to COL he tweeted the news) and Coleman is just one of those "playoff" type guys. Tampa is definitely not messing around this year.

With Greene's departure, the only remaining player on the roster from that Devils team that made the SCF in 2012 is Travis Zajac. That's not shocking so much as the fact that it's almost been exactly EIGHT YEARS since then.

Devils are in on LD Mikko Lehtonen, considered to be the best defenceman in the KHL. Led Jokerit in scoring this season.

Devs sign prospect defenceman Reilly Walsh to an ELC. This is an interesting case because he was committed to going back to Harvard for his senior year, but with the NCAA hockey season likely to not happen, he forgoed another year at school and unrestricted free agency (which he coveted) for signing with the team that drafted him.

Expect more NCAA guys to sign or maybe explore the CHL if they set up shop.
