With Bryce Salvador and Anssi Samela on LTIR, Lou was able to squeeze under the cap with a bare minimum 20 man roster. That means he has no healthy scratches, and if there's an injury, it better be a long term one or he'll be dressing late 2009 Flames-like rosters.

The team will have only 11 forwards and dress 7 d-men every night. They have under $35k worth of cap space, meaning they can't call anyone up until they have $35k or less left on their cap hit. Considering Mike Cammalleri's one game, one cap counting day suspension cost him $32k, it gives you an idea of how long it'll take before that point occurs.

At least Vancouver, with $40k in cap space, have 22 men on their roster, so they can deal with the occasional sickness or couple game injury and still ice a full roster. New Jersey has no luxury at all. Adam Mair, who "made the team" on a tryout, has yet to be signed and can't play until Lou figures out a way to work him in.

If you think this is genius, and Lou has fooled everyone again, you'd be wrong. This is absolutely batshit crazy.

Derian Hatcher, who apparently still exists, says Lou Lams is mocking the league.

This ain't an emergency, NHL. Within 24 hours, he can ice a full roster: He has to waive a player and assign him to the AHL (or lose him), then make the callups to be cap compliant. He is circumventing the salary cap: he is keeping too expensive of a roster. In fact, he's spending so much money that he doesn't even have a NHL roster by definition.
