You think Vancovuer was impressive in getting under the cap? Well, you'd be right, considering the lengths and lack of margin for error Lou Lams gave himself.
http://www.capgeek.com/tracker/team.php?id=20With Bryce Salvador and Anssi Samela on LTIR, Lou was able to squeeze under the cap with a bare minimum 20 man roster. That means he has no healthy scratches, and if there's an injury, it better be a long term one or he'll be dressing late 2009 Flames-like rosters.
The team will have only 11 forwards and dress 7 d-men every night. They have under $35k worth of cap space, meaning they can't call anyone up until they have $35k or less left on their cap hit. Considering Mike Cammalleri's one game, one cap counting day suspension cost him $32k, it gives you an idea of how long it'll take before that point occurs.
At least Vancouver, with $40k in cap space, have 22 men on their roster, so they can deal with the occasional sickness or couple game injury and still ice a full roster. New Jersey has no luxury at all. Adam Mair, who "made the team" on a tryout, has yet to be signed and can't play until Lou figures out a way to work him in.
If you think this is genius, and Lou has fooled everyone again, you'd be wrong. This is absolutely batshit crazy.
