Unless they struck gold with Tomasino or John Hynes is secretly a coaching genius, it sure does look like the Preds are on a pretty precipitous decline and are just playing out the string for the next two seasons before they blow it up. They had the best defenseman in the world this season and still got embarrassed in the bubble by a team that can't even afford to keep the lights on in Glendale.

Preds get Granlund and Haula on the cheap.

Granlund was an awful fit in Nashville, but at that price it's fine. Haula's been hurt but he's good when healthy.

Preds having a disaster of a season. Johansen and Duchene are not getting it done. Josi out with an injury.

Expect them to be sellers.

Mostly it seems like the goalies are the ones not gettin' the job done. The Preds don't look good but Saros has been pretty bad, and Rinne looks like he should've thrown in the towel long before this season started.

Ekholm and Forsberg up for grabs. Great cap hits both, so they should get something back.

I'm not convinced Forsberg will be gone by the deadline or offseason but Ekholm most definitely has to be before the expansion draft.

Another busy summer of reloading for Poile. Arvidsson goes to LA for two picks.

Nashville will need to protect four defencemen, so a forward had to go. I still think they'll beg Seattle to take former Winterhawk Ryan Johansen and his onerous contract.

The Preds have about 22M in cap room, and they've wanted Hall in the past.

Preds deal Ryan Ellis and his long-term contract to Philly for Nolan Patrick and Phil Myers. Patrick then goes to Vegas for Glass in a trade of reclamation projects.

Preds break up their vaunted defence further for...Cody Glass? Sure, go for it.

Preds prospect Luke Prokop becomes the first near NHLer to come out. Good for him.

Cool to see all the people showing support.

I'm sure there were others before him, but to come out at 19 in the hockey world takes some serious guts.

Goddammit I have to root for a NSH player now...

Seravalli and others saying not much traction on an extension for Forsberg. If he goes, one would think the Preds will move fast on secondary options like Burakowsky, Niederreiter, Domi, Rakell. Maybe even Kane?

I also wonder if Nashville ends up being Kessel's final destination.

Poile confuses me sometimes. I don't get why he thought for a moment it was worth losing the team's best-ever forward for nothing just to earn the right to get bounced in the first round. I could understand them making that decision back when Suter was still a Pred as they hadn't had much on-ice success at that point, but now? Just making the playoffs isn't good enough.

I would imagine Poile was told he had to make the playoffs. Those gates probably are the difference between breaking even and not.

Well geez, if they really thought it was worth two measly home playoff games (which they lost) by all means...go raise another meaningless banner and scramble around signing a bunch of scrubs to try and fill the gaping hole left by Forsberg.

I'm very interested to see where he ends up. It would be nice if, for once, a star player with links to the Avs did not end up in the goddamned same division as them.

One less big name UFA out there: Filip Forsberg gets 8/8.5M AAV.

Not only Forsberg, the Preds added Ryan McDonagh and Nino Niederreiter for a song.

Nice offseason for them.

Michael McCarron entered the player assistance program. Way too many goons have to deal with this, I would just as soon eradicate fighting than continue to have to see things like this.

I remember someone on here (E.L.?) mention that Lefebvre and the Habs more or less bullied McCarron into becoming a goon.

They did it to him and Tinordi. Basically told them fighting was the fastest way to make the Habs roster. A miracle they're still in the league.

Preds may actually be able to pull off the quick retool, especially after dumping the contracts of Ekholm and Granlund. They appear to have some intriguing young talents in Tomasino, Novak, Parssinen, and Evangelista. Glass is not the superstar his draft status suggested he was, but he's still a near-elite defensive center. Pretty much a steal of a deal since they essentially got him for the broken down corpse of poor Nolan Patrick as part of the Ryan Ellis trade.

One guy I don't care for at all is Dante Fabbro, the guy they pretty much chose over a young Sam Girard, which they most assuredly regret now. They shopped him and failed to find any takers, and ultimately chose to retain him for one more season. He rewarded that last night by trying to stop a 2-on-1 by flopping, not only knocking the puck into his own net, but nearly killing his own goalie in the process. Idiot. I swear if I was still a youth coach and I saw a player flopping to block a shot/pass I'd immediately start screaming bloody murder.
