Unfortunately the Preds are the next Sabres. Poile and Trotz are obviously competent hockey guys, but they've gotten set in their ways and the team is moving backwards in a hurry, and being in the same division as the Hawks and Blooz doesn't help.

Granted, there are no Leino-type albatrosses here, but their attempts at adding offensive players within their budget (Stalberg) hasn't worked out.

They have quite a few good, young forwards (Wilson, Beck, Watson, Bourque etc), but none of them are elite guys and homegrown Preds tend to max out as solid two-way pluggers. Are they products of the system they're forced to play? At this point, I'd say yeah.

Agreed. The biggest "albatross" is Rinne's contract, which is looking really bad right now admittedly, but some of us in here already questioned throwing that much money at one goalie, no matter how good, when the Preds had a fairly decent pipeline.

Fucking hell, apparently David Poile was in the hallway during a Preds practice and got hit in the face with a puck, paramedics were on the scene and now he's headed to the hospital. :shock:

Of all the injuries that might befall Team USA before the Olympics, I wasn't counting on that one.
