A foregone conclusion De Smith won't start the season in Montreal, either he's dealt or waived.

Hughes pulled off some nice maneuvering to (likely) get under the cap, even counting Price's salary. It'll allow the Habs to accrue cap space throughout the year and add a bunch of salary at the deadline from strapped teams.

Now Chris Wideman is out indefinitely. Sucks for them, but they were both millstones on the roster so it'll make life easier for MSL and co.

They're at 25 one-way/ELC contracts, with three goalies, eight defencemen, 14 forwards.

Habs aren't even messing around: Reinbacher goes back to Switzerland. He and Guhle will be the second pairing in a year.

Preseason is preseason, but this team is gonna be pretty lousy this season. Slafkovsky has his moments but he's still getting used to the speed of the game.

Slafkovsky steadily improved as camp progressed, which is a good sign. Defence has not looked great, especially Barron.

Armia on waivers! Big move by Hughes. He's still got two years left on his deal. Lindstrom too, he was hurt during camp.

Habs blow two leads and lose 6-5 to the Leafs, but the Dach-Hook-Slaf line was dominant 5v5. Small victories.

Credit to Marty, he used Newy the Newfie exactly how he should be used. 2nd line complementary winger. Doesn't have to do the heavy lifting at either end of the ice, just work hard and pick spots to get his very good release off, maybe scrap for some rebounds in front of the net.

He'll still enter some stretches where he just looks completely lost but there's a legit NHLer in there.

Ugh, Dach goes down with an LBI from a hit by Tinordi, of all people.

Habs beat Bedard and the Hawks 3-2 to start the season 1-1. They look like they can score, just don't ask them to hold a lead or play defence.

It's a serious injury for Dach. More info coming but he's out a while. Two games in and the season is already a disaster.

And I guess Reinbacher got hurt back in Europe too, though not nearly as serious.

Dach out for the season with ACL/MCL tears, and now Guhle out a while according to Friedman. This season is already a trash fire.

Bad as they already were and are going to be now, I still think the Habs are nowhere near as bad as the Sharks.

The Caps might be. They lose 3-2 to the Habs on OT. Suzuki got called out by MSL and immediately responded.

David Savard had a heroic penalty kill where he broke his skate blade and still blocked a shot. Now he's out indefinitely with an UBI.
