I like the Weber-less Habs. Faster. More tenacious.

Petry always steps his game up when Weber is out. Worth it just for that.

I think it's more of a case of the team not being held back by Weber's lack of speed and quickness.

aside: And Montreal ties it! And the Sportsnet Leaf Commentators lack any kind of emotion calling it. They were just chit chatting while the play unfolded :chairshot:

Agreed about Weber's speed: the special teams immediately got better after his slow ass went down. I feel bad casting him aside because he played a good game in Edmonton and can still help the team, but as long as he's here he's the captain, and as long as he's captain they'll defer to him and put him in situations where he can't succeed.

I think Drouin and Tatar are goners this offseason anyway, same with Staal-Perry. There will be room for turnover and I'm hoping more kids grab spots like Romanov, Evans, Caufield are doing right now.

With guys due to return, including a one-handed Gallagher, what lineup do you want to see in the playoffs?

Toffoli-Suzuki-Caufield
Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
Anderson-Kotkaniemi-Armia
Byron-Evans-Perry
Staal
Drouin?

Edmundson-Petry
Chiarot-Weber
Merrill-Romanov
Kulak

Price-Allen

I would enjoy seeing this lineup during this playoffs. If Drouin wants in, I'd put him on the KK line, but only if his head is on right.

On a complete fantasy side note - I was chatting with a friend about Weber/Subban. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Subban made his way back to Montreal at a much reduced cost and was paired with Weber. That would be amazing if only for the Subban/Weber argument to end lol

PK has a year left on his deal, so manageable!

I totally forgot Lehkonen too, he should be there.

Absolutely. Right now - I'd have him above Drouin, even though Drouin is MUCH more talented.

Man I felt bad for Primeau last night. Flicked on the game and caught the Marner goal...

Can they even do Drouin and CC at the same time? I thought one of the benefits of putting JD on LTIR is that it gave them enough cap room to activate Caufield.

Weber, Price, Gallagher, Drouin, Danault, Byron out. Tatar just got back in. Hope they're rested for the playoffs, at least.

Drouin won't be back till the playoffs, if at all. I think they're good.

Resting those guys is probably their best bet for the playoffs. Hopefully they can pull off the kind of rested intensity they had at the beginning of the season / last year's playoffs.

Leave him out of the playoffs. I would much rather have CC than JD at this point.

"There's obviously a lot of pressure playing in Montreal, everybody knows that," Drouin said. "But for me as a player I think I'd rather have that pressure on myself [here] than some other places. I'm French-Canadian and I'm going to thrive on that pressure. I like that stuff."

:psyduck: iiam:

The latest 31 Thoughts pod has a really good interview with former Habs assistant coach and Chris's favorite player of all time Kirk Muller and he talks about the state of the Habs this year and going through that Bubble playoff run.

On the injury front: Tatar and Byron are back.

Gallagher and Price should be back for game 1.

Danault dunno, Drouin don't ask.

Is it true that because Drouin is out and Danault is injured that the Habs iced the first Quebecois-free roster for the first time in its 112-year history? That's something. I'm surprised more of a stink wasn't made of that given just a few years ago, people freaked out because Saku Koivu didn't announce the opening lineup in French.

Was it the first time ever? Might've been, feel like it might've happened before but maybe not.

Lots of injuries, extenuating circumstances.

Besides, they clinched tonight, Paul Byron speaks French and Josh Anderson's family is from Montreal. We good haha.

Habs are in. Byron-Evans-Lehkonen looked like an impressive checking line, I hope they keep them intact. Between them and the imminent return of Tatar-Danault-Gallagher, you've got two lines of chemistry.

Suzuki and Toffoli go together. That leaves Anderson, Armia, Caufield and Perry (and maybe but probably not Drouin) to move around with Suzuki and Kotkaniemi or Staal. (Staal's lousy, but you know, vEtErAn lEaDeRsHiP.)

Defence is good if 100% healthy, and way off balance if not:

Chiarot-Weber
Edmundson-Petry
Kulak-Romanov

Merrill has been awful since arriving. Really shocking how bad for a guy meant to bring boring reliability. Gus has barely played, I like his shot and first passes but nothing else. Kulak has worked his way back in the lineup, and I think he and Romanov have chemistry. Romanov has struggled with Weber out, but it also coincides with Merrill becoming his partner.

Price and Allen in nets. Allen is gassed. Price needs to be healthy and ready.

I don't think this team sucks. They survived a ridiculous condensed schedule to make the postseason. I wouldn't give up on them yet.
