Sayonara. Claude Julien in.

Remember when the Habs fired Therrien and replaced him with Julien in 2003? Good times.

Poor Therrien. No defenders in his darkest hour. A hard worker, but he was pushing a playing style from a bygone era, and although he's come a long way since forcing Sid and Gene to back up in the neutral zone, he still couldn't quite instill a system that allowed his players to take chances.

Julien's not exactly Jon Cooper, but he'll find his stars and ride them. Bergevin said he thinks the personnel can win it all, so I think he's hoping Julien gives Galchenyuk heavy minutes.

Another old-school coach bites the dust. I read somewhere both Therrien and Bob Hartley were close friends and developed their approaches together.

Here's the sad truth: The Montreal Canadiens have had the best goalie in the world and a top-5 goal scorer under contract for a COMBINED 11M since 2013-14.

That's 4 years with two of the best players in the league at a bargain basement price. And they have nothing to show for it.

Hell, add in Galchenyuk at his rookie and bridge deals and they've had a Vezina goalie, a Rocket contender and a no. 1 centre for about 14M.

Enough time for CJ to turn around this season? Doesn't look like it.

Oh look, Eller's found a home in Washington. Shaw's taking dumb penalties and getting benched.

Fuck this team.

What they really need is an exciting, puck moving d-man with a big heart and an eye for the net...

Clearly Shaw and Weber don't hate to lose enough. Maybe what this team needs is Milan Lucic and Chris Pronger.

Weber doesn't seem to mind right now. He's as unaffected as ever.

And that's precisely what Bergevin wants from his players.

Isn't there like only 3 French coaches left in the league? Guess it serves as a nice political buffer when things go sideways and the coach's invariably get fired.

It's a restrictive policy, but at least they have the best option possible in Claude Julien. (I'm partial to Boucher or Dominique Ducharme, but whatever)

Habs expected to add at the deadline, but with so many needs and so little to give up, rentals might result in even more problems down the line for a team with little chance of winning in the present.

I say either they add a depth guy or two, or they go big and make a deal for next year (i.e. Galchenyuk for an older, more established centre).

McCarron hasn't locked down a lineup spot so he could be dealt, but I also don't think he's a particularly valuable trade chip. Might as well keep him. Same with De La Rose, who probably needs a year or two in Sweden to recalibrate.

Vanek had 25 points in 33 games as a Hab (playoffs and regular season) and people look back like it was the worst deadline deal ever.

I totally forgot about Therrien arbitrary benching of Vanek. Would've made the finals that year if Price had been healthy. The team has imploded since then.

Habs trade D Greg Pateryn, another inexplicably buried player, to Dallas for the lesser Benn.

Shuffling deck chairs.

Wow. Dallas FINALLY got rid of Jordie!? I bet Stars fans are thrilled.

I heard a stat today about the Habs - their last regulation win was a month ago. January 31, 5-2 over the Sabres.

Take that for what it is I suppose.....

Habs add a second LHD in Davidson. Another year left on his deal, like Benn. Prepping for life after Beaulieu.

Preparing for expansion and clearing salary for a big addition.
