My only fear is that they trade for Steve Fucking Ott.

I wouldn't support him.

I'd cheer if he were injured.

This team needs a no. 1 or 2 centre and a top-4 defenceman. Not Steve Fucking Ott.

We have Frans Neilsen and Jonathan Ericsson for you too.

Nielsen and Filppula are both available, but they're very Plekanec-y to me: good two-way guys with diminishing offensive skills.

They'd make good rentals, but both have term left.

Just means you have longer to love Nielsen.

I wrote this when I heard he was rumored to Montreal.

I hate him. I hate this team.

Fuck them.

Habs add another grinder in Dwight King. Pending UFA. Gave up a conditional 4th.

Nashville is in town tonight. PK received a governor's general award and is spending the day with the kids at the hospital. Too much class for the Molsons.

Habs got bigger and slower by adding Ott, King and Martinsen. Not sure what they're building towards.

Julien likes his teams big and strong--speed has never seemed to be a big plus for him.

King, Ott and Martinsen are pending UFAs. Depth for the playoffs and likely nothing beyond. Habs are clearing room for the offseason.

Under contract 17-18

Pacioretty-Galchenyuk-?
Lehkonen-Plekanec-Gallagher
Hudon-Danault-Shaw
Byron-McCarron-Mitchell
Carr
De La Rose

Sergachev-Weber
Emelin-Petry
Beaulieu-Redmond
Benn
Nesterov
Davidson

Pricoya

May I ask what pray tell Bergevin is doing with these signings? Both acquisitions are like fringe 4th liners at best.

I know Juilian likes his teams big and strong but that model is like 8 years old and badly outdated. But the league now one of speed, pace and scoring (especially in the East + for playoffs) is it not?

They're all pending UFAs, so I think in lieu of adding a major piece, Bergevin settled for adding size and grit depth to the fourth line for a playoff run. I suspect none of them will return next season, so it opens spots and cap room for potential offseason additions.

Assuming Radulov gets signed and Bergevin doesn't have a PK moment with Galchenyuk, who's guaranteed to be back next season?

F: Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, Radulov, Shaw, Gallagher, Danault, Lehkonen

D: Weber, Petry, Sergachev

G: Price

Anyone else? Mitchell and Byron are replaceable. They'd love to move Plekanec and Emelin's contracts. Beaulieu is a chip. So is McCarron. Benn, Nesterov, Redmond, Davidson are interchangeable. Carr and De La Rose have floundered. Montoya is expansion draft chum. Markov's a UFA.

Can't imagine Hudon and Sergachev not making the squad next season.

There will be roster and cap space in 17-18.

Looking at those additions, are they a better team now than before?

Meh. King and Benn are nice depth guys with experience. Davidson is more for next season. Ott is coming in as a faceoff specialist. Martinsen is a 13th forward.

The team's fundamental problems remain: they lack scoring, need another top centre and need to get younger on defence

It's cap and expansion draft management.

Meh - big tilt tonight at the Rog. There will likely be more Habs jerseys in the crowd than Nuck ones. The Habs seem to have sorted themselves out with 5 straight wins and the Canucks are coming off 2 big road wins in SoCal with a depleted borderline AHL lineup.

Looks like Plekanec and Radulov are out tonight for the Habs. I heard Plekanec is a little disgruntled and might have to earn his way back into the lineup?

Eriksson with a bruised knee will be missing for the Nucks. Probably for the best.
