Differing opinions on the upside of MAGA boy. Does he have the speed to hang? Will his offence translate? Is he a leader like he showed at the WJC?

We've seen him dominate at a young age, bit there's also that lack of high end ability that could limit his upside.

Interesting prospect. Some say he's ready to be a bottom 6 with top 6 upside, while others see him as a Laval guy who has to prove himself over time.

Check Poehling's Twitter feed before Molson tells him to shut it down...

Jack Todd had a very nice post referring to that, sure enough he's getting slagged for it.

Agreed with most of what he said, and the part I disagreed with was likely said in jest (that his politics suggest he's not adult enough to be a pro).

Truth is the Habs have some pretty shitty politics right now. Domi has said some anti-immigrant things in the past, Shaw has a homophobic slur on the record, and Price's wife is peddling anti-vax shit on YouTube.

These aren't Rhodes scholars we're talking about here.

These are people who I don't want to see have much influence.

There are unfortunately a ton of otherwise "likable" pro athletes who have absolutely horrid political views. Andrew Copp, Robin Lehner, Thomas Greiss, Mat Barzal, and a whole slew of others are either big Trump supporters or love pundits in that vein like Jordan Peterson. I do think there's value in showing a staunch right-winger the value of diversity, but yeah, it doesn't necessarily speak to their ability to play the game.

Anyway, what's the word on Keith's boy?

Politically, nothing thankfully.

In terms of play, he was a brick wall at Northeastern. 930 save pct's as an 18 and 19 year old. A late round flier, but he's looking like a strong goalie prospect. Could be moved for a decent piece with Price here to stay.

The expectation, and Bergevin didn't do much to dampen anyone's enthusiasm, is that Poehling could at least be a 3rd line centre who's defensively responsible, bit of a playmaker, average skater. If he's not that already, maybe in a year or two.

The pie in the sky dream is he morphs into a poor man's Toews consummate leader type, with top-2 centre offence but is really just a complete player every which way. Showed what he can do as MVP during the last World Juniors and as a very young guy in NCAA.

Maybe in two years the team will sport Kotkaniemi-Suzuki-Poehling up the middle, with Danault and Domi still around and under 30.

One game and I already want to start a Poehling wood thread.

Hatty in his debut, plus the shootout winner. Nose around the net every shift, but with enough space to dish and create offence. He's already a big galoot, too. He'll fight for a spot next season on the big club, but I don't consider it a fair fight. He'll power his way on here.

MAGA boy is still MAGA boy on Twitter. I think the Habs quietly move him to another team for a similar prospect this offseason to avoid controversy.

Poehling the forgotten man with Suzuki and Kotkaniemi taking a step forward. Even Jake Evans won the 4thline centre job in the playoffs.

He's 21, had a concussion marred season, but there's still plenty of time for him to establish himself. And is he the wild card in these Danault/Domi negotiations? If the Habs are still high on Poehling, maybe they want to wait and see what they have in him?

As the article points out, Danault was trash his first pro season. Fellow late first rounder.
