Feel like he took a slight discount to return. He said he wanted back.

Exactly, perfect fourth line guy who can take key faceoffs.

Can't remember if I mentioned it but Charlie Hudon seemed pretty broken up about likely not returning to Montreal next year. Is he a good pickup for a team in need of depth or nah?

30 points in his rookie year. Yeah, he could be a solid buy low candidate, especially if they don't tender him a contract.

His problem was CJ didn't like him as a grinder, and he wasn't good enough for the top 2 lines. A bit like what happened to Andrighetto in MTL.

And now they sign Weal, 2 year deal.

https://www.tsn.ca/habs-weal-agree-to-t ... -1.1296673

Just like the Thompson deal, I like this one, another depth guy 4th liner

Post subject:  Re: Fuck this team

Weal's nice because he's a right handed faceoff guy, which they don't have, and he's good enough to sub at right wing kn an offensive role from time to time

If they can't find a RW this offseason, Gallagher, Shaw, Armia, Weal, Suzuki works.

Out herein Nova Scotia there are a bunch of second hand stores called "Frenchie's"

You can typically go there and find some beautiful classic items that some Boston Brahman died wearing for very little money.

Bergie is the king of the best kind of Frenchie's score.

Watched Teasdale play for the Huskies last night. Best player in the ice.

Habs found a gem in this kid.

Third liner with second line upside.

Great mitts.

Gritty.

Not fast but quick.

Smart.

Nice! Could always use more goal scoring.

Habs signed a Finnish defenceman, Otto Leskinen. Left handed, put up points, only 22. Interesting add.

Will the Habs be aggressive this offseason, or are they content with their stocked farm system and improved play in 2018-19?

Part of me thinks they can add a solid backup, some powerplay help depth guys and call it a day. Hope for Poehling and Suzuki to graduate.

Part of me also sees the Panthers and Sabres poised to make big moves this offseason, making the Adams Division even tougher. But you also don't want another Karl Alzner on your roster.

I think Bergevin has a big free agent in mind (Panarin? Gardiner?) but if he strikes out, he'll look to fleece another GM. If that doesn't pan out, he'll play it safe and add some bits.

Habs are in a position to add a bad contract that runs the next two years. After that they'll be in cap trouble of Kotkaniemi and Poehling and a few others play like they should.

Jake Allen, Mathieu Perreault obvious names that could help the team out. Floated by the Athletic.

Knowing Bergevin like we do, I think we can telegraph who the Habs will be targeting in free agency.

I think they'll aim for Eberle or Duchene, be in on Simmonds, dumpster dive for a veteran LHD like Hainsey or Coburn. Anyone in play for a two year contract would be nice for the Habs. I don't think they want to get locked in long-term to a secondary scorer like Connolly or Donskoi, but at two years would bite.

I'm taking Gardiner off the table for now. I don't see them being in a position where they have 11M committed to him and Alzner (who is un-buyoutable).

Drouin-Danault-Gallagher
Tatar-Domi-Eberle/Simmonds
Lehkonen-Kotkaniemi-Armia
Byron-Weal/Thompson-Shaw

Mete-Weber
Kulak-Petry
Coburn/Hainsey-Juulsen

Price-new backup

Extras: Poehling, Hudon, Peca, Folin, Deslauriers, Reilly

Habs bring back LD Gustav Olofsson, acquired from Minny in the famed Will Bitten deal, to a one year deal with some extra AHL scratch. He's had 4 major shoulder injuries, so he's a wild card but if healthy, will be solid in Laval.

With Olofsson, Ouellet, Brook, Fleury, Leskinen and Sklenicka all set for Laval, looks like it's the end for Alzner.

At the pre-draft presser, Bergevin was definitely trying to temper enthusiasm. With UFAs getting paid, a stagnant cap and a young roster you don't want to mess with too much, the Habs will likely add smaller pieces this offseason and hope their youngsters keep improving.

Naturally, Bergevin said they want to add a defenceman, which is imperative because Benn won't be back, but also it gives them an opportunity to find a potential top-4 guy. I figure he'll add two guys and hope to find another Kulak. If he's confident in what's out there, he can dump Reilly too to clear roster space.

Habs draft RW Cole Caufield at 15. The greatest single season rookie goal scorer in US U18 history, he's only about 5'7 but the kind of elite goal scorer you don't usually find at 15. Habs will gladly take him.

He'll go to Wisconsin, where he'll play alongside an even shorter player: 5'3 Sean Dhooghe!!!

So ironic that Bergevin seemed like a total anti-analytics guy and yet here he is assembling a small, fast, skilled team.

I think Bergy planned on drafting a defenceman. Cole's agent is Pat Brisson (aka Bergy's best friend) and told Bergy to not bother because Cole was going top 10 for sure.

Habs chatting with at least Ferland, Lee, Duchene and Gardiner during the free agency negotiation period.

A couple more LD options: non-tendered defencemen Ben Hutton and Joakim Ryan.

Mike Reilly brought back at two years, 1.75M AAV. Definition of a meh player, but arguably better than whatever dumpster diving Bergy has planned.
