Yeah, WTF? Didn't even get a penalty!?

Two young players of comparable talent jousting. Both rookies. Both trying to prove themselves.

One guy hits another. The other guy hooks the first guy. The one guy stops as the other tries to skate around him.

They got tangled. The 155lb 20 year old got hurt by the 165lb 18 year old.

Shit happens.

This wasn't bush league.

It wasn't dirty.

Sucks for the Nucks fans to see their star player hurt (again)

Don't go have a riot over it though...

I'm not saying suspend the kid, but it was an obvious penalty.

It was a nothing play. A nothing penalty.

Stuff like that gets missed every game.

The only reason we're talking about it is because the kid got hurt.

The play in question: https://twitter.com/Sportsnet650/status ... 8792733696

Bit of roughhousing there, we've seen refs call it and we've seen them let it slide. I guess the feeling is they were tangled up together behind the play, which happens all the time. Did Kotka toss him down awkwardly, leading to his leg getting crumpled? I don't know, it doesn't look that bad. Looks more like they both wiped out and Elias got the worst of it.

Even Petterssen said it was an accident.

Interference because it was behind the play but the sort of thing the refs commonly miss, their eyes can't be everywhere.

I want to see EP make amazing plays.

He's pure, baffling, entertainment.

Sucks he's out.

I went to hf today...

Hysterical sreeches calling for 20nto 30 game suspension.

That wasn't Hatcher cross checking Crosby in the face.

And.

I see the outrage as cumulative.

EP has had a tough go of it...

PK bested Shea on Saturday. Weber looked like he really wanted to prove himself against his former team, scoring a goal but otherwise having trouble matching up with their speed.

Habs still exceeding expectations this season, and Price is finally playing well. Defence remains a mess although Petry is honestly looking like a bottom-end Norris candidate right now.

Schlemko on waivers. After getting waived, Alzner is up again but not playing. The defence beyond Weber and Petry remains messy.

Benn is playing well again, which won't last but is making things easier in the interim with Juulsen still out. Mete is playing better after some needed time in Laval. Reilly has good days and bad ones. Kulak is an efficient enough stopgap. Ouellet is back in Laval.

Brook and Romanov shined in the WJC, but neither is close to help the big club.

Bergevin should be on the lookout for a LD, and not a rental either. Trade assets for one with term.

Full no-move till 2023. I'm not saying no, but are the Hawks truly ready to give up? Like, really give up?

It would be amazing if they were.

Habs instantly become way more difficult to play against.

Though that's a slow, old and expensive top pairing.

Listless against Minny last night. The goals by committee system worked early on and they're still solid 5-on-5, but without consistent scorers or a working powerplay, expect more 1-0 nights.

I like Armia. Brings some needed size and right-handed shotness. Can hop on any line for a spell.

They really don't have a 4th line, though. That's going to wear on them. Wonder if Peca will get another legit shot.

DGB did a small feature in his latest power rankings and awarded the Habs as the winner of the "Most Middle-of-the-Pack Team" in the league this year. A close to .500 win percentage and also near-dead even in goal differential, and not a rollercoaster-type team that has big winning and losing streaks, like, say, Minnesota. I mean, hey, mediocre is way better than everyone thought they'd be. Now we'll see if they actually build off this.

Exactly. This team could tank down the stretch and the season would still be a success. They came into the season with some major long-term questions that needed clarifying. They're on their way.

Price and Weber can still play when healthy.
Domi is a guy, and Drouin can ride with him.
Kotkaniemi is a real C. Poehling is on his way. Danault wasn't just riding Pacioretty's coattails. Suddenly there's hope up the middle.

Big OT win against the rival Bruins. Habs 4th in the division and 7th in the conference.

They'll be in the playoff hunt till the last day, and I think are a bit further ahead than the Sabres, their main divisional competition.

If they go after a rental, it'll be for a Mike Weaver-type where they only give up an inconsequential pick. Otherwise they'll be targeting a defenceman with term, but they may want to wait till the offseason to tinker with chemistry.

Of course, the biggest addition could come in the form of Ryan Poehling, but his college team looks destined for the Frozen Four, which would make it impossible for him to jump till next season.

With everyone healthy the lineup doesn't look half bad:

Drouin-Danault-Gallagher
Tatar-Domi-Shaw
Byron-Kotkaniemi-Lehkonen
Deslauriers-Chaput-Armia

Mete-Weber
Reilly-Petry
Benn-Kulak

Priciemi

I think the way things are shaking out, get the kids some valuable playoff experience this year, but admit beating Toronto and Tampa is unlikely.

But next year, if both teams have to carve some of their depth to keep under the cap, go for it hard before Kotkaniemi gets expensive.

Wow this team beat the Jets to a pulp.

Danault and Drouin are flying together.

4 consecutive goals in 4 consecutive games for Kotkaniemi. Youngest player to do that.
